Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Ir. Wan Arfiani Barus, M.P was officially confirmed as a professor of agronomy agricultural science through a senate session held on Wednesday (12\/4) at the UMSU Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3 Medan.<\/p>\n
Attended by Muhammadiyah North Sumatra Regional Leader Prof. Dr. H. Hasyimsyah Nasution, MA, North Sumatra Aisiyah Regional Leader, UMSU Daily Board of Trustees, Vice-Rectors, Senators, and Vice-Rector.<\/p>\n
Vice-Rectors, UMSU Senate and Professors, and extended family. Prof. Wan, through his inaugural oration entitled ‘Salinity Stress and its Solutions in Food Crops,’ is a collection of his research for 10 years that contributes to the development of agronomy science. The focus of his study is stress on rice plants and in general.<\/p>\n
He explained that the sea level increases yearly, accelerating seawater intrusion into the land. As a result, it accelerates the salinization process on land near the coast.<\/p>\n
“It is predicted that in 2025, Indonesia will import 11.4 million tons of rice. Suppose the conversion of rice fields continues to occur at 190 thousand hectares per year, and the printing of new rice fields is only 100 thousand hectares yearly. In that case, the use of sub-optimal land is a step that must be taken, “said Prof. Wan, who since 2017 has been a civil servant lecturer of Agriculture at UMSU.<\/p>\n
According to him, using saline land is an alternative that can be done, but the main obstacle is salinity. He also said that the Faculty of Agriculture UMSU will produce maternity of red rice and black rice in the future.<\/p>\n
At this emotional moment, Prof. Wan, the fourth of four children, expressed his gratitude to all parties and parents who have helped a lot.<\/p>\n
“I would like to express my deep gratitude to the UMSU’s Rector and his staff and those who have delivered and given me the opportunity. Do not forget my parents, the late father, Wan Zainal Arifin Barus, B.A and the late mother, Dra H. Habsyah Nasution, have raised and educated me in a disciplined and loving family, “said Prof. Wan with teary eyes full of emotion.<\/p>\n
Prof. Wan revealed that he never imagined becoming a professor in agriculture. This achievement began with the advice of his parents, who asked him to study at the Faculty of Agriculture because agriculture is very important. Life in this world is very dependent on the world of agriculture.<\/p>\n
Previously, UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, expressed his gratitude and hoped that this inauguration could encourage many professor candidates at UMSU.<\/p>\n
“We are grateful that 2 professors at the Faculty of Agriculture UMSU are listed as DPK PNS Lecturers LLDikti Region 1 North Sumatra. We hope that the target in 2025, at least UMSU, has 20 professors, “said Prof. Agussani.<\/p>\n
According to him, the increase in professors at UMSU is part of the roadmap that has been prepared and strengthens superior accreditation. Until now, UMSU has 11 professors in various sciences and 8 excellent accredited study programs.<\/p>\n
Not only the UMSU’s Rector, the Chairperson of the North Sumatra PWM, Prof. Hasyimsyah, in his remarks, wished Prof. Wan a happy inauguration. According to him, one of the characteristics of a progressive university can be seen in its professors. Therefore, UMSU has advanced with 11 professors.<\/p>\n
“This is a blessing for you, UMSU, and everyone. Remembering in the Qur’an, there are 3 human duties: worshiper, Khalifah, and prosper. You are already in a position to bring prosperity, “said Prof. Hasyimsyah.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the knowledge gained remains in the corridor of religion and Allah SWT; it will be precious and valuable for others. The PWM chairman also said that Prof. Wan and UMSU’s achievements were a vast contribution to Muhammadiyah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
