The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (FAPERTA UMSU), held an International Symposium with Kyushu University Japan, ‘Strengthening The Potential of Local Resources Towards Sustainable Agriculture.’ It was held on Monday (11\/9) at the Faperta UMSU Hall on Muchtar Basri Street No.3 Medan.<\/p>\n

The International Symposium, which was held for the first time, presented four expert speakers in agriculture, including Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics Faculty of Agricultural Kyushu University, Prof. Hiroshi Isoda accompanied by Prof. Takanashi Fumie, IPB Vocational School Lecturer Prima Gandhi, M.Si, Faperta UMSU Lecturer Prof. Dr. Muhammad Buhari Sibuea, M.Si. and Vice Dean 1 Faperta UMSU Prof. Dr. Ir. Wan Arfiani Barus, M.P..<\/p>\n
This activity was opened directly by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector I, Prof. Muhammad Arifin Gultom, M.Hum. On this occasion, Prof. Arifin said that international activities were not the first time this had been done. Faperta UMSU often collaborates by inviting speakers from Japan.<\/p>\n
“The internationalization of UMSU has become necessary to keep up with developments, especially now that UMSU accreditation has wanted an international increase. We welcome this activity; hopefully, it will be useful for us, and thank the speaker for sharing his knowledge today,” said Vice Rector I.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Vice Dean I Faperta UMSU Prof. Wan said that the Internationalization program carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture UMSU continues to run. One of them is the departure of 44 international PKL students in Malaysia. Also, in September, the Malaysian MARDI research team will visit UMSU to learn about Moringa. Followed by plans for international cooperation with Rajamangala University, Thailand.<\/p>\n
“I hope that after this international symposium, we, together with Kyushu University and Tokyo University, can immediately publish international journals and certificates accompanying diplomas. I hope that the participants, both lecturers and students, will continue to follow this activity until it is finished,” said Vice Dean I Faperta.<\/p>\n

The symposium continued with the presentation of research results guided by Widya Yuliana, S.Agr., M.Sc., with different topics from each speaker, among them related to Analysis of the contribution of Agribusiness Microfinance Institutions on Increasing Farmers’ Income in Serdang Bedagai District, Political Economy of Contemporary Global Agricultural Trade From Food Regime Analysis to Mitigation of Salinity Stress in Support of Sustainable Agricultural Systems.<\/p>\n
