The ceremony was attended by Indonesia\u2019s Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. The inauguration took place on Saturday morning (25\/10) at the UMSU Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"642\" data-end=\"1580\">The ceremony began with the oath of office, followed by the inauguration of:<br data-start=\"718\" data-end=\"721\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"762\">Prof. Dr. Triono Eddy, S.H., M.Hum.<\/strong> as Director of the Graduate School<br data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"800\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"823\">Dr. Zailani, M.A.<\/strong> as Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, replacing Dr. Muhammad Qorib, MA<br data-start=\"899\" data-end=\"902\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"904\" data-end=\"933\">Dra. Syamsuyurnita, M.Pd.<\/strong> (FKIP)<br data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"943\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"979\">Dr. Arifin Saleh, S.Sos., MSP.<\/strong> (FISIP)<br data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"990\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"1033\">Prof. Dr. Ir. Wan Arfiani Barus, M.P.<\/strong> replacing Dr. Dafni Mawar Tarigan (Faculty of Agriculture)<br data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1095\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"1097\" data-end=\"1125\">Dr. Radiman, S.E., M.Si.<\/strong> replacing Dr. Januri, SE, Ak. Ade Faisal, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.<\/strong> replacing Dr. Munawar Alfansuri, ST, MT (Faculty of Engineering)<br data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1352\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1411\">dr. Siti Masliana Siregar, Sp.THT-KL., Subsp.Rino(K).<\/strong> as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences<br data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1469\" \/>\u2013 <strong data-start=\"1471\" data-end=\"1508\">Dr. Al-Khowarizmi, S.Kom., M.Kom.<\/strong> as Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1791\">The inauguration was opened by the reading of the Rector\u2019s Decree by Vice Rector for Finance and Human Resources, Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd, followed by a handover ceremony from outgoing deans to their successors.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-25-at-4.21.00-PM-1-300x200.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"2013\">During the event, Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. extended his congratulations to the newly appointed deans and graduate school director, emphasizing the weight of leadership responsibilities in higher education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2201\">\u201cLeadership transitions are inevitable, but they come with significant consequences. Every transition demands responsibility and the determination to achieve better outcomes,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2203\" data-end=\"2406\">He referenced the <strong data-start=\"2221\" data-end=\"2243\">\u2018One Percent Rule\u2019<\/strong>, explaining that in any organization, only one percent serve as leaders, nine percent as critics, and the remaining ninety percent as beneficiaries of leadership.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2408\" data-end=\"2577\">\u201cIf you aim to please everyone, don\u2019t become a leader\u2014be a comedian. A leader must be ready to face criticism, because criticism helps us grow and improve,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2579\" data-end=\"2639\">He also highlighted the importance of empathy in leadership.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2579\" data-end=\"2639\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-25-at-4.20.58-PM-3-1024x682.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2641\" data-end=\"2788\">\u201cBeing a leader isn\u2019t about \u2018me,\u2019 but \u2018us.\u2019 A good leader must be able to see, feel, and understand the needs of their environment,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2790\" data-end=\"3043\">Prof. Fauzan further addressed the challenges faced by higher education in the digital generation. Today\u2019s students, he said, have short attention spans and prefer shortcuts, requiring educators to adapt their teaching methods or risk being left behind.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2790\" data-end=\"3043\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-25-at-4.20.58-PM-1024x682.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3045\" data-end=\"3330\">\u201cSurveys show that parents send their children to university hoping they will secure good jobs. The question is: are our programs aligned with that expectation? Universities must understand the needs of society. UMSU must be able to respond to societal and workforce demands,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3045\" data-end=\"3330\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-25-at-4.20.58-PM-2-1024x682.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3332\" data-end=\"3538\">He also underscored the importance of creating <strong data-start=\"3379\" data-end=\"3405\">impact-driven campuses<\/strong>, stating that universities should not only serve as learning centers but must produce graduates who are relevant to community needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3540\" data-end=\"3779\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-25-at-4.20.56-PM-300x200.jpeg\" \/>\u201cIf this is the expectation, then universities must be designed to create impact. This is not easy, as it requires a shift from viewing universities merely as learning spaces. This mindset must be embraced by university leaders,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3781\" data-end=\"3896\">Prof. Fauzan encouraged UMSU to continue innovating and collaborating with government programs in higher education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3898\" data-end=\"4059\">\u201cA good UMSU is one that can address challenges in its surroundings. Universities must not only be places of learning but agents of social change,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4061\" data-end=\"4251\">Earlier, UMSU Rector Prof. Agussani, filled with emotion, shared that leadership transitions at UMSU are part of a well-established regeneration process aligned with Muhammadiyah principles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4253\" data-end=\"4564\">\u201cThank you to all deans who have worked extraordinarily with UMSU. At the end of their terms, the Faculties of Economics and Business and Islamic Studies successfully achieved international accreditation from FIBAA. I hope the new leadership will continue fostering innovation, achievement, and unity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4566\" data-end=\"4730\">He noted that despite intense competition among universities and a national decline in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (APK), UMSU continues to earn strong public trust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4732\" data-end=\"4867\">\u201cEven though national university enrollment is decreasing, Alhamdulillah, UMSU has received 4,600 new students this year,\u201d he reported.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4732\" data-end=\"4867\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-25-at-4.21.01-PM-2.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4869\" data-end=\"5078\">The Rector also highlighted several university achievements, including 18 international students from countries such as the UK, USA, Nigeria, and Yemen, as well as accomplishments in the PKM and P2MW programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5080\" data-end=\"5172\">\u201cThis shows that UMSU continues to earn public trust amid increasing competition,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5174\" data-end=\"5363\">Regarding the upcoming <strong data-start=\"5197\" data-end=\"5227\">Muhammadiyah Congress 2027<\/strong> in North Sumatra, Prof. Agussani reported to the Deputy Minister that construction of the congress venue has reached over 28% progress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5365\" data-end=\"5557\">Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Board of North Sumatra (PWM Sumut), Prof. Dr. H. Hasyimsyah Nasution, MA, reminded the newly appointed leaders that their roles bear great responsibility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5559\" data-end=\"5742\">\u201cLeadership is not merely authority, but the mandate to help many people.
