{"id":17568,"date":"2026-02-10T12:10:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T05:10:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/en\/?p=17568"},"modified":"2026-02-28T12:14:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T05:14:13","slug":"umsu-hosts-national-muhammadiyah-workshop-on-post-emergency-disaster-response-in-sumatra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/en\/umsu-hosts-national-muhammadiyah-workshop-on-post-emergency-disaster-response-in-sumatra\/","title":{"rendered":"UMSU Hosts National Muhammadiyah Workshop on Post\u2013Emergency Disaster Response in Sumatra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"94\" data-end=\"522\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara<\/span><\/span> (UMSU) hosted the \u201cWorkshop on the Integration of Collaborative Action Plans of Muhammadiyah Councils, Institutions, and Autonomous Organizations for the Post\u2013Emergency Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program in Sumatra (Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra) \u2013 POSKORNAS PP Muhammadiyah.\u201d The event was held at the VIP Meeting Room on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, Tuesday (February 10).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"524\" data-end=\"758\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-02-10-at-10.19.01-PM-300x200.jpeg\" \/>At the workshop, the Chairman of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah<\/span><\/span> (PP Muhammadiyah), dr. H. Agus Taufiqurrahman, Sp.S., M.Kes, expressed appreciation for the swift response of all Muhammadiyah elements in addressing the disaster.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"1052\">\u201cWe extend our deepest gratitude for the extraordinary efforts demonstrated throughout this disaster response. What the organization accomplished across the three provinces\u2014supported by universities and the entire organizational structure\u2014serves as a model for other institutions,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1287\">He emphasized that Muhammadiyah\u2019s humanitarian movement must be grounded in sincere intentions. \u201cWhat we do is not for image-building, but for accountability\u2014to ensure that the funds collected are truly distributed to those in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1289\" data-end=\"1616\">Earlier, UMSU Rector Prof. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector III Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, reported that flash floods that struck several areas in North Sumatra\u2014including Sekoici Village in Besitang District and Pantai Cermin Village in Tanjungpura District, Langkat Regency\u2014had left significant impacts on local communities.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-02-10-at-10.18.58-PM-1-300x200.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1618\" data-end=\"1746\">In response, UMSU deployed hundreds of volunteers through its disaster emergency response program to assist in recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"2020\">\u201cWhen we first arrived at the flood sites, the scenes were heartbreaking. The situation was chaotic. Many homes had been flattened, others swept away by the floods. Household belongings were scattered, vehicles abandoned, and some houses were buried in mud,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2022\" data-end=\"2484\">Beyond physical destruction, the risk of post-flood diseases also increased. \u201cPatients frequently presented with fever, cough, and respiratory distress caused by dried mud and poor ventilation in evacuation shelters. There were also cases of diarrhea due to contaminated water sources, with risks of severe dehydration. Additionally, leptospirosis\u2014an infection transmitted through bacteria from rats\u2014poses a serious threat and can damage vital organs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2486\" data-end=\"2891\">As part of its commitment to the tridharma of higher education, four teams of UMSU lecturers and students implemented community partnership programs funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology under the 2025 Sumatra Disaster Emergency Response Funding scheme. The initiatives included logistics distribution, healthcare services, clean water provision, and psychosocial assistance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2486\" data-end=\"2891\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-02-10-at-10.18.58-PM-1024x682.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2893\" data-end=\"3037\">\u201cThe UMSU team has distributed essential aid to affected communities and provided medical services for those impacted by the disaster,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3039\" data-end=\"3300\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-02-10-at-10.18.59-PM-300x200.jpeg\" \/>Over the course of one month, UMSU mobilized approximately 300 personnel deployed across South Tapanuli, Sibolga, Central Tapanuli, Langkat, and Aceh Tamiang. In addition, around 70 doctors were placed on standby to support medical services in affected regions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3302\" data-end=\"3570\">UMSU also received Rp1.6 billion in funding from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, allocated entirely for emergency response needs, including water storage tanks, well drilling, generator procurement, and installation of supporting facilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3572\" data-end=\"3767\">Meanwhile, the Chairman of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Pimpinan Wilayah Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara<\/span><\/span>, Prof. Dr. H. Hasyimsyah Nasution, M.A., underscored the importance of effective management and coordination in disaster handling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3769\" data-end=\"3974\">\u201cA good cause, if not properly managed, can be overshadowed by falsehood.
