The General Secretary of Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah and Indonesia\u2019s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, officially inaugurated Phase 3 of the Muhammadiyah Nutritious Meal Program (MBM) National Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) at the Integrated Campus of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), located on Jalan Dwikora, Pasar VI, Saentis Village, Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang, on Monday (February 16).<\/p>\n

The inauguration was marked by the ceremonial beating of the traditional tagading<\/em> drum, alongside the Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Inspector General of Police Sony Sonjaya; the Vice Governor of North Sumatra, H. Surya, B.Sc.; the National Coordinator of MBM, Dr. M. Nurul Yamin; and UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP.<\/p>\n

In his address, Minister Abdul Mu\u2019ti cited a Qur\u2019anic verse emphasizing the importance of physical and mental strength for Muslims, particularly the younger generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cA strong believer is better and more beloved by Allah than a weak believer. A strong generation means those who possess intelligence, broad insight, and sound physical health,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed Muhammadiyah\u2019s full support for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, a priority initiative of President Prabowo Subianto.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are three crucial stages in human development: first, 75 percent of brain development occurs while a child is still in the womb; second, the golden age up to five years old; and third, sustained nutritional fulfillment thereafter. That is why Muhammadiyah wholeheartedly supports this Free Nutritious Meal program,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Deputy Head of BGN, Irjen Pol Sony Sonjaya, emphasized that the initiative is not merely about providing meals but about transforming the nation\u2019s mindset. Over 13 months of implementation, the program has reached 60 million beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am impressed by the readiness of UMSU\u2019s infrastructure. Some SPPG units are already operating, others are under construction, and the supply chain is well established. At least 47 local workers have been employed, serving more than 1,000 beneficiaries. Thank you to Muhammadiyah for its active contribution to this program,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, North Sumatra Vice Governor H. Surya described the initiative as a long-term investment in Indonesia\u2019s human capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not merely the inauguration of a building, but a movement to ensure that children and pregnant women receive the best nutrition,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

He stressed that regional quality is determined by the health of its younger generation, urging stakeholders to prioritize local food sources, maintain quality standards, and ensure transparent oversight.<\/p>\n

National MBM Coordinator Dr. M. Nurul Yamin reported that a total of 221 Muhammadiyah SPPG units have been launched nationwide, with 126 currently operating fully.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe program has reached 270,000 beneficiaries and engaged 5,591 workers, the majority from underprivileged backgrounds. This is Muhammadiyah\u2019s tangible contribution to poverty alleviation and the productive use of land,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He added that Muhammadiyah\u2019s nutrition program management adheres firmly to three core principles: Zero Accidents, Professionalism, and Trustworthiness.<\/p>\n

Earlier, UMSU Rector Prof. Agussani explained that the SPPG facility stands on land within the Integrated Campus, which is also being prepared as the venue for the 2027 Muhammadiyah and \u2018Aisyiyah Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis land belongs to Muhammadiyah and holds official certification from the National Land Agency, handed over directly by then-Governor Edy Rahmayadi,\u201d he said, briefly recounting the history of the site.<\/p>\n

He also reaffirmed UMSU\u2019s support for the Free Nutritious Meal program.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlhamdulillah, through the MBM National Coordination, UMSU has been entrusted to manage three SPPG units\u2014two in Saentis Village and one in Sibiru-biru. We do more than provide meal facilities,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

UMSU has established an integrated supply chain, ranging from plantations, poultry farms, fish ponds, and even a bottled water factory.<\/p>\n

Regarding preparations for the 2027 Congress, Prof. Agussani reported that construction progress at the Integrated Campus has reached 35.5 percent for the Auditorium of Progress and 50 percent for the Walidah Sports Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod willing, the Walidah Sports Hall will be completed ahead of schedule to welcome our major agenda in 2027,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

In addition to the tagading ceremony, the inauguration included the signing of the MBM commemorative plaque, the presentation of a book titled \u201cFree Nutritious Meals from the Perspective of Islam and Education,\u201d<\/em> and a group photo session.<\/p>\n

The event was also attended by the Minister\u2019s Special Staff Didik Suhardi, Ph.D.; Expert Staff Dr. Azaki Khoirudin, M.Pd.; BGN Director of Community Empowerment and Participation Tengku Syahdana; members of the North Sumatra Regional House of Representatives; regional government officials; Muhammadiyah leaders across North Sumatra; UMSU vice rectors; youth leaders; community figures; and heads of technical implementation units under the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
