Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the K.H. Ahmad Dahlan Mosque at its integrated campus on Jalan Dwikora, Pasar VI, Desa Saentis, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, on Saturday (February 28).<\/p>\n

The groundbreaking was carried out by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah\u2019s Central Executive Board and Special Presidential Advisor for Hajj Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P., alongside UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., Chairman of PWM North Sumatra Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution, M.A., President Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk Anggoro Eko Cahyo, Vice Governor of North Sumatra H. Surya, B.Sc., and Deputy Regent of Deli Serdang Lom Lom Suwondo, S.S.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, the President Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Tbk, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, presented a donation of Rp 2 billion to support the mosque\u2019s construction.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, the BSI President Director expressed the bank\u2019s readiness to support the project, noting that the mosque development aligns with BSI\u2019s role as a state-owned Islamic bank. He also emphasized the bank\u2019s long-term commitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod willing, we will continue to support and even increase our contribution. This reflects our commitment to collaborate with community organizations so we can grow sustainably with strong partners. As one of the world\u2019s largest Muslim-majority countries, Indonesia must have a strong Islamic bank,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He further expressed hope that the mosque would serve as a center for character building. \u201cWe hope this mosque becomes a hub for character and Islamic education. UMSU and Muhammadiyah have also provided significant support to us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Vice Governor of North Sumatra, H. Surya, B.Sc., conveyed his appreciation for the initiative taken by Muhammadiyah and UMSU.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe highly appreciate Muhammadiyah, PWM, and the Rector for initiating this mosque. Muhammadiyah continues to promote enlightened and civilized Islam, one example being UMSU in producing outstanding generations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He also reaffirmed the North Sumatra Provincial Government\u2019s commitment to supporting development rooted in religion and education.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s groundbreaking symbolizes our collective effort, prayers, and commitment. May every contribution, no matter how small, become a lasting charity. May this mosque thrive and inspire great ideas,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

The Vice Governor also encouraged UMSU to strengthen the synergy between higher education and character development. \u201cUMSU should continue to enhance the integration of academic excellence and character building to produce leaders with strong religious values,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Earlier, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., expressed his gratitude for BSI\u2019s contribution to the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cBSI\u2019s contribution is truly remarkable. We pray for its continued success. The bank has committed Rp 2 billion to support this mosque\u2019s construction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He explained that the mosque was named K.H. Ahmad Dahlan by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah\u2019s Central Executive Board, Prof. Dr. H. Haedar Nashir, M.Si., and is designed with a blend of modern and traditional classical architecture. The mosque will have a total area of 2,000 square meters, with a capacity of 1,700 worshippers on the first floor and 300 on the second floor.<\/p>\n

He expressed hope that the mosque\u2019s construction would support the smooth implementation of the 2027 Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Congress as well as academic activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully, the successful organization of the 2027 Congress will bring pride to North Sumatra. We understand that this development is part of Muhammadiyah\u2019s broader mission,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As Chairman of the 2027 Congress Organizing Committee, Prof. Agussani added that the mosque is designed to provide comfort for worshippers, including the use of marble imported directly from Egypt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis area tends to be quite hot, so we chose marble as it helps absorb heat inside the mosque,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

He also invited donors and contributors to take part in the mosque\u2019s development. \u201cWe welcome all donors and contributors to participate in this project,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chairman of PWM North Sumatra, Prof. Hasyimsyah, described the mosque as a symbol of Islamic civilization. \u201cBuilding a mosque is a reflection of civilization. Whoever builds a mosque will be rewarded with a house in heaven. We hope the presence of UMSU\u2019s Campus IV in Deli Serdang will continue to grow and expand,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He also expressed gratitude to all contributors. \u201cThank you for your presence and support in this mosque\u2019s construction. The mosque is strategically placed at the front, in line with Muhammadiyah\u2019s principles. May it bring blessings to Muslims in Indonesia,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The event was also attended by Regional CEO of Bank Syariah Indonesia Region 2 Medan, Taufan Ansari; leaders of PWM and PWA; Chairman of BPH Dr. H.
