It was attended by hundreds of UMSU students and members of the academic community, with Lecturer Agus Sani, S.E., M.Sc., serving as moderator.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-04-02-at-6.43.13-PM-300x200.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"957\">This lecture was part of the \u201cMPR Goes to Campus\u201d program\u2014an initiative aimed at strengthening students\u2019 national awareness, encouraging youth participation in development, and addressing strategic national issues, including global challenges such as public policy and the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"1168\">The session was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from attendees who filled the auditorium to gain insights into climate change challenges and the importance of transitioning to clean energy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1170\" data-end=\"1384\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-04-02-at-6.43.13-PM-1-300x200.jpeg\" \/>In his opening remarks, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., emphasized the strategic role of higher education institutions in preparing future generations to address global challenges, including climate change.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1386\" data-end=\"1578\">\u201cUniversities must not only produce academically \u0909\u0924\u094d\u0915\u0943\u0937\u094d\u091f graduates, but also individuals with integrity, social awareness, and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1914\">He also encouraged students to take an active role in national strategic issues. \u201cWe know Dr. Eddy Soeparno as both a national figure and a strong advocate for renewable energy. This public lecture should be used as an opportunity to broaden perspectives, so students become part of the solution rather than mere observers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"2290\">The Rector also highlighted UMSU\u2019s achievements and its commitment to developing renewable energy innovation through collaborations with various national and international institutions. He further noted ongoing campus development projects, including the construction of the <em data-start=\"2190\" data-end=\"2214\">Auditorium Berkemajuan<\/em> and <em data-start=\"2219\" data-end=\"2239\">Walidah Sport Hall<\/em> in preparation for the 2027 Muhammadiyah Congress.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2292\" data-end=\"2404\">In his lecture, Dr. Eddy Soeparno stressed that energy transition is an urgent necessity that cannot be delayed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2292\" data-end=\"2404\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-04-02-at-6.43.13-PM-1.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2406\" data-end=\"2529\">\u201cClimate change is no longer a future threat\u2014it is happening now. Therefore, energy transition is imperative,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2645\">He explained that dependence on fossil fuels is a major contributor to rising carbon emissions and global warming.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2647\" data-end=\"2805\">\u201cWe must begin shifting to renewable energy. This is not only about the environment, but also about economic sustainability and the nation\u2019s future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2647\" data-end=\"2805\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-04-02-at-6.43.16-PM.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"3035\">He further emphasized the crucial role of young people in driving energy transition. \u201cStudents must become agents of change. Do not just observe\u2014take part in promoting innovation and environmentally friendly policies,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3037\" data-end=\"3243\">In the context of national policy, he proposed that 2026 be designated as a year of climate crisis mitigation, warning that without a clear and coordinated agenda, the impacts of climate change will worsen.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3245\" data-end=\"3505\">\u201cIndonesia\u2019s climate policies are still fragmented across sectoral regulations. A comprehensive legal framework is needed to integrate planning, implementation, funding, and evaluation of climate policies across sectors and levels of government,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3245\" data-end=\"3505\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-04-02-at-6.43.18-PM.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3507\" data-end=\"3650\">He also highlighted the urgency of accelerating the enactment of the Climate Change Management Bill as a key instrument for policy integration.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3652\" data-end=\"3821\">\u201cA dedicated climate change law will provide long-term policy direction and strengthen the country\u2019s accountability in meeting emission reduction commitments,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3823\" data-end=\"3931\">Furthermore, he encouraged stronger collaboration between government and universities in policy formulation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3933\" data-end=\"4176\">\u201cI have consistently advocated for greater involvement of universities in addressing the climate crisis. Research findings and scientific data from academic institutions are essential for developing effective and impactful policies,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3933\" data-end=\"4176\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/umsu.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-04-02-at-6.43.17-PM.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4178\" data-end=\"4321\">He concluded by stressing that successful energy transition requires data-driven policies, scientific research, and cross-sector collaboration.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4323\" data-end=\"4488\">\u201cEffective policies must be grounded in data and research.
