The Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas<\/span><\/span>, officially closed the \u0633\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0629 of events for the Medan Coding Competition 2026 held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara<\/span><\/span> (UMSU). The closing ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon (May 10) at the Campus Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri, Medan.<\/p>\n

The competition, which involved 623 participants from various educational levels ranging from elementary, junior high, senior high\/vocational schools to universities across Medan, was held over two days from May 9\u201310, 2026.<\/p>\n

In addition to coding and technology competitions, the event also featured a mini talk show and an MSME bazaar as part of efforts to strengthen Medan\u2019s digital ecosystem and creative economy.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Mayor Rico emphasized that technology must serve as a solution to societal challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully this event will contribute to the advancement of our future technology. Technology is not merely about tools or how they are created, but about creating solutions,\u201d said Rico.<\/p>\n

He added that the Medan City Government, through the Communication and Information Office, continues to encourage the use of technology to address various urban issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll existing problems must be solved through technological solutions. This means that every issue should be approached with technology-driven solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also expressed hope that the event would build the confidence of Medan\u2019s younger generation to become key players in future technological development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe future is created, and it must start being created today.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the end of his speech, he expressed appreciation to UMSU and all parties who contributed to the success of the event.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Chairman of the UMSU Board of Trustees (BPH), Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP., reaffirmed the university\u2019s commitment to supporting programs initiated by the Medan City Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are open and fully prepared to support the Medan City Government\u2019s initiatives. Hopefully future events can once again be hosted at UMSU.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also revealed that UMSU had been appointed as a representative partner in North Sumatra by Universiti Malaysia Perlis<\/span><\/span> (UniMAP) for digital technology development initiatives.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cUniMAP has offered collaboration with UMSU as their representative in North Sumatra. Later, we can connect collaborative programs between North Sumatra, particularly Medan, and Perlis.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees also shared updates regarding preparations for the 2027 Muhammadiyah Congress in North Sumatra, particularly at UMSU\u2019s fourth campus. He expressed hope that the Medan City Government would support and contribute to the success of the major event.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Head of the Medan Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA), Benny Iskandar, S.T., M.T., stated that the competition was a direct initiative of the Mayor of Medan aimed at promoting the development of science and technology.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is purely the Mayor\u2019s initiative to develop the creativity of Medan\u2019s youth in coding without relying on the state budget.\u201d<\/p>\n

The BRIDA chairman also appreciated UMSU\u2019s support in providing facilities and collaborating in organizing the event.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., Dean of FIKTI Assoc. Prof. Dr. Al-Khowarizmi, M.Kom., vice deans, government officials, and community leaders, including Medan Timur Subdistrict Head Fernanda, Glugur Darat II Village Head Ahmad Fadil Siregar, Garuda Spark Innovation Hub Expert Staff Abdurrahman, KADIN Chairman M. Iqbal Sinaga, faculty leaders at UMSU, Acting Chairperson of IWAPI Medan Yoshida Sari, S.E., S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., as well as representatives from several Medan City Regional Government Agencies (OPD).<\/p>\n

The competition concluded with the announcement of winners who received the Mayor of Medan Trophy, including:<\/p>\n
