The UMSU Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) successfully carried out community service activities in the village of Jaring Halus, Langkat Regency, with the theme “Local Wisdom-Based Empowerment Program in Realizing Independent Villages in Jaring Halus Village, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra” on Saturday, (22/6). Followed by 18 people from UMSU consisting of the LPPM team, LBH (Legal Aid Institute), and students.
The community and village officials were not just passive observers, but active participants in the community service. Their warm welcome and active engagement, as evidenced by the interactive discussion after the material, was a testament to the success of the event. The service included various activities, such as community empowerment related to economic independence by Dr. Muhammad Andi Prayogi, SE, M.Si, and a material on Legal Aid Assistance by the Head of LBH, Faisal Riza, S.H., M.H.
Remarks from the chairman of LPPM Assoc, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fitra Zambak, ST., M.Sc, also emphasized that the fine net village as a UMSU-assisted village will continue to be fostered and improve its welfare with various research and community services carried out by UMSU. The head of the activity, Dr. Sigit Hardiyanto, S.Sos., M.I.Kom, also mentioned the next community service follow-up plan, which has the potential to be carried out again in the village.
Meanwhile, free health checks were also carried out for the village community. The local community highly anticipated this examination due to their limited access to health care so far.
There were about 48 people who came to check themselves, starting by checking blood sugar, cholesterol, and hemoglobin as a marker of anemia. After the examination, the LPPM team, Dr. Eka Febriyanti, provided group counseling related to the health problems found at that time. From the assessment results, many people experienced hyperglycemia after being examined due to the habit of drinking sweet drinks, especially coffee, in the area.
The success of this community service has paved the way for future activities. The UMSU team, having identified several priority problems that can be addressed in the next service, is committed to continuing this initiative. The enthusiasm and gratitude expressed by the village officials and the community, and their anticipation for the next visit from the LPPM UMSU team, are a testament to the positive impact of the service.
