Universitas Muhamamdiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and Persatuan Mahasiswa Anak Negeri University Sains Malaysia (Permas USM) held a cultural exchange performance through a program entitled “Collaboration Cultural Exchange”. Activities filled with each country’s traditional dance and cultural performances were held on Friday (31/5) at the UMSU Campus Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri No.3 Medan.
WR III UMSU, Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, who opened this activity in his remarks, revealed that the relationship between UMSU and USM Malaysia was very close so that various programs would be carried out. Moreover, UMSU has received recognition from MQA Malaysia.
He also invited students to show their creativity on the UMSU stage.
“Please, later, show the best abilities of UMSU and USM students so that they can stay in touch and strengthen cultural values and friendships. Hopefully, this friendship will continue to be established,” said Dr. Rudianto.
The cultural exchange was lively, packed in a series of creative performances from UMSU and USM students such as various Indonesian and Malaysian Malay dances, Live Music to Fashion shows of traditional clothing in Indonesia.
This cross-country cultural exchange is not the first time for UMSU, previously an exchange event was held between UMSU and exchange students from Gwangju, South Korea.
Advisor of the Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan USM Student Association, Prof. Madya Dr. Azmil bin Mohammad Tayeb, expressed his pleasure at the warm welcome from UMSU.
According to him, this activity can provide opportunities for students to develop their knowledge through cross-country communication.
“For me, this is an important program to instill respect through cultural understanding and strengthen students’ open-mindedness skills,” said Azmil.
He hopes that the cooperation will involve not only a cultural exchange but also various useful programs in the future.
