Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and Telkomsel collaborated to hold an event entitled ‘Youtube Kampus Day’ presenting speakers Country Head Youtube Indonesia, Suwandi Widjaja and Manager Youth Community and Lifestyle GTM Telkomsel Sumatra Area, Ika Purnama Dewi at UMSU Auditorium Jalan Muchtar Basri No.3 Medan, on Thursday (5/30).
The event was opened directly by the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by WR III Dr. Rudianto, M.Si. Also present were the General Manager of Telkomsel GTM Sumatra Area, Fachrul Rizzal, and his staff; Head of the Public Relations Bureau, Dr. Ribut Priadi; M.I.Kom; Head of Student Affairs and Alumni Bureau, Dr. Radiman, M.Si, Faculty Leaders and Lecturers at UMSU as well as 500 participants among students and students.
Country Head of Youtube Indonesia, Suwandi Widjaja, was very impressed with the enthusiasm of the participants who attended this event. He was pleased to get a good reception from the UMSU academic community.
“I am very happy with the enthusiasm of UMSU to participate in this activity,” said Suwandi.
On this occasion, he conveyed the development of YouTube and Content Creators for 12 years in Indonesia, where more than 5000 hours of content are uploaded every minute. Then, there are 18000 content creators in Indonesia who are growing with more than 100 thousand followers.
“YouTube wants to provide a platform and voice of expression for all creators, small and big,” he said.
Suwandi shared tips for becoming a successful creator on Youtube, saying that consistently creating and uploading videos is one of the strategies to gain views and subscribers. It doesn’t have to be viral content but you need to ensure the quality of visuals, thumblines and text.
Then, Manager – Youth Community and Lifestyle GTM Telkomsel Sumatra Area, Ika Purnama Dewi, explained about digital music business opportunities, including being a singer, writer, recording studio, music promoter, content creator, live streaming concert to virtual artist collab.
“Telkomsel provides a platform for friends who have a band or can sing to have their songs published. We have Telkomsel Indie music that can be followed,” said Ika.
She also mentioned the world of music amid the onslaught of AI. According to him, AI is both an opportunity and a challenge for the music industry in the digital era.
Meanwhile, WR III UMSU Dr. Rudianto at the opening, expressed his appreciation for this event. He enthusiastically welcomed this activity as a forum for discussion between YouTube and students.
“In the past, many laughed at the YouTubers profession, but now YouTubers are a profession that cannot be underestimated,” he said.
He advised students to make the best use of this activity and the YouTube channel: “This event must inspire all students. The presence of YouTube Head Country in Indonesia is not just random. Big figures are those who have tech companies,” continued Dr. Rudianto.
The General Manager of Telkomsel GTM Sumatra Area, Fachrul Rizzal, revealed that this event is a form of commitment to the cooperation between UMSU and Telkomsel.
“This is our commitment from Telkomsel as a bridge for students to the digital world. So I hope, don’t be shy, ask questions and discuss,” said Fachrul.
The talk show session, guided by Agussani, M.Sc, ran interactively, with a question-and-answer session by the participants. The session ended with a lucky draw for the lucky participants. The participants not only gained knowledge but also had the opportunity to participate in lucky draws, receive free snacks and coffee, and play VR Games Player.
