The academic community of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) qurban (animal sacrifice) at the Eid al-Adha 1443 H. The qurban was held on Jalan Captain Mukhtar Basri Campus. As many as 54 cows were handed over to the surrounding community spread over three campuses.

The qurban meat will distribute to the locals around the campus. The distribution was carried out by Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, to the Head of Glugur Darat II District of Medan Timur Riki Irawan Nasution. At that time, Vice Rector I Prof. Dr Muhammad Arifin Gultom, Vice Chancellor II Prof. Dr.Akrim, M.Pd, Vice Rector III Dr Rudianto, M.Si, heads of faculties, institutions, communities, and Society Advisor throughout Glugur Darat II Village who receive the qurban meat.

Rector Prof. Dr Agussani, MAP said that the handing over of sacrificial animals to the community around the campus should be grateful after two years of not cutting due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Remarking on the activity of slaughtering sacrificial animals, which is a routine schedule for celebrating Eid al-Adha, it is hoped that it can strengthen the bonds of friendship.

UMSU collected 54 qurban cows from the academic community, banking partners, and companies this year,” said Prof Agussani. The handing over of sacrificial animals to the community, continued the Chancellor, was a form of UMSU’s commitment to carrying out the Tridharma of Higher Education, as well as a form of concern and friendship. A total of 14 cows were distributed to the community in Medan Denai Sub-district (near the Postgraduate Campus), the community in Medan Kota District (near the Medical campus), and the East Medan District community (Main Campus), as well as the integrated campus land in Sampali and the fostered villages.

Prof Agussani emphasized that UMSU has been trusted by the community so that it cannot be separated from the district. For this reason, social programs rolled out every national and religious holiday to become the university’s annual calendar. In addition, the academic community took the momentum on the feast of sacrifice to increase a sense of social awareness to achieve the value of righteousness.

“On this sacrificial feast, UMSU deliberately shares sacrificial animals to the community to increase a sense of concern for others and piety, as well as build friendship and a spirit of togetherness,” he said.

Chancellor Prof. Dr. Agussani said that the existence of UMSU today cannot be separated from the support of the community around the campus. The presence of UMSU students who live in the community certainly requires attention and support to carry out their studies well.

The Rector also invited the community around the campus to jointly welcome the presence of UMSU students from various regions as the pandemic is expected to continue to the slope.

“Let’s take care of the campus situation together. UMSU feels very secure and has a good relationship with the community. We are trying our best to improve the quality of education and graduate services,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lurah Glugur Darat II Riki Irawan Nasution said that as a community representative in Glugur Darat II Village, he would like to thank the Chancellor and all UMSU academics. They have directly handed over sacrificial animals to the community. Giving sacrificial animals to the community, carried out yearly at the Eid al-Adha celebration, is meaningful because it will further strengthen friendship and the spirit of togetherness.

“As a community representative, I would like to thank UMSU. As an alumnus, I feel proud of the achievements and social care shown by UMSU,” he said.

The Lurah emphasized that the synergy between UMSU and the ward has been positive. In addition, the presence of UMSU is felt very positively by the surrounding community, so it needs to be maintained.

Meanwhile, one of the community leaders, Syarifuddin hopes that UMSU can continue to advance with proud achievements. “I hope that UMSU can be more advanced and give more to the surrounding community,” he said.
