Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held a Public Lecture with the theme “The Role of Higher Education to Succeed the 2024 Election” at the UMSU Auditorium, Jl Kapten Mukhtar Basri Medan, Friday (23/9).
This Public Lecture invited Dr. Idham Holik, SE MSi, a Member of the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI), as a speaker.
The activity, which was opened directly by the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP, was attended by the ranks of the UMSU Rector, Faculty Leaders, and hundreds of UMSU students.
Also present were several KPU commissioners from North Sumatra and several KPUD commissioners from Medan, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, Binjai, and others.
The Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP, in his direction when opening the event, expressed his appreciation for holding this Public Lecture activity. He said that so far, UMSU has been very open to participating and contributing to efforts to build democratic life, including the success of the General Election agenda.
In his public lecture presentation, Dr. Idham Holik, SE MSi, clearly explained the urgency of the role of Higher Education in developing democratic and political life in Indonesia.
According to him, the quality of political and democratic life is primarily determined by the extent of the role of civil society (civil society) in it.
“Therefore, as part of a civil society, of course, the role of universities cannot be doubted,” said Idham Holik.
