Dr. H. Rahmat Shah, the world’s leading nature conservation figure, invited students of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra to get involved in preserving flora and fauna, especially in rich Indonesia.
The invitation was delivered in a public lecture entitled ‘Fauna Protection Efforts Through Conservation for Sustainable Development’ held on Wednesday (3/7) at the UMSU Auditorium on Muchtar Basri Street No.3 Medan.
Before giving a public lecture, Rahmat Shah visited various campus facilities, including the Education USA Center at UMSU, the Library, and the UMSU Studio, to broadcast on UMSU FM Radio.
The presence of public figures who have won many national and international awards, including having served in high state institutions, received a warm welcome from students.
The material presented interactively by including videos made the participants feel at home following the lecture delivered.
He invited more than 500 students and leaders in North Sumatra to support efforts to conserve, rehabilitate, and restore biodiversity to prevent extinction due to global warming and environmental crimes by humans.
“My friends from childhood have been animals,” he said, recounting his early love for animals and flora and being active in environmental conservation activities.
The Chairperson of the Conservation Institute of the Association of Zoos throughout Indonesia (PKBSI) explained that conservation institutions are the last bastion of saving endemic rare animals in Indonesia.
“We do many things, there are around 4,912 types of animals that are cared for and preserved,” Rahmat said.
In addition, this Indonesian figure, who has achieved various international achievements and awards, also shared his success tips from a workshop worker to now a successful entrepreneur.
He shared 10 tips for success including collaboration, respect for parents, discipline, sharing, togetherness, hard work and choosing a social environment.
“I am a village boy from Babolon River, North Sumatra Splicing and an orphan. I never feel lost and disadvantaged because the key to success in life is togetherness, there is no envy and jealousy,” he said.
He appreciated the extraordinary development of UMSU. According to him, whatever UMSU students participate in always gets proud achievements.
Previously, Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, expressed his gratitude for Rahmat Shah’s availability to visit UMSU. He said that Rahmat was very supportive of the work and achievements of UMSU students.
“Thank you Bang Rahmat for your presence on today’s agenda. He is very extraordinary, very appreciative of the works of young people, “said Prof. Agussani.
Prof. Agussani also hopes that Rahmat Shah can collaborate to succeed the 2027 Congress held in North Sumatra, “Towards the Congress, we will build an Auditorium, Spot center and Mosque. Hopefully the collaboration of UMSU and Rahmat Gallery can advance togetherness, “hoped the Rector of UMSU.
UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP and Dr. Rahmat Shah on that occasion gave ropes to International Achievement Athletes, namely UMSU students who won 2 gold and 3 bronze medals at the 23rd MILO OPEN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As well as Bridge athletes who won gold medals in the mix pair category at the 2024 ASEAN University Games.
