Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held its second graduation ceremony for the year 2024, attended by 2,287 graduates. Held over two days on Tuesday-Wednesday (17-18/12) at Selecta Convention Hall, Jl. Listrik No.2, Petisah Tengah, Medan.
The first day of the graduation ceremony was attended by 1,132 graduates from doctoral, master’s, medical, bachelor’s, and associate degree programs, including Postgraduate, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), and Faculty of Engineering.
The Head of LLDIKTI Region I, Prof. Drs. Syaiful Anwar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed appreciation for UMSU’s contribution in shaping competent young generations.
“We are proud of UMSU’s achievements, and I thank UMSU for adding the Doctoral program that is needed in North Sumatra. Alhamdulillah, UMSU’s medical program has long been excellent, so there is no doubt about its graduates,” appreciated the Chairman of LLDIKTI during his speech on Tuesday (17/12).
He also stated that UMSU, as a higher education institution, has understood the importance of scientific work and international collaboration, thus successfully winning 6 medals at the Diktisaintek Award event.
He reminded the graduates to be confident and continue developing the skills they have acquired during their education.
“For the graduates, make use of the knowledge you have acquired to contribute to society. As for the master’s and doctoral graduates, use your expertise to support career development and the wider community,” he said.
Then, the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP, who led the graduation ceremony, expressed appreciation and congratulations to the graduates in his speech.
“We congratulate you on the success of your sons and daughters. May the graduates succeed in their careers, bring pride to their families, and honor the name of UMSU,” said Prof. Agussani.
The UMSU Rector stated that UMSU continues to show significant development in various aspects, both academically and non-academically.
After becoming an A-accredited university in 2019, UMSU now has 18 study programs that have been accredited as excellent. Furthermore, it continues to expand educational levels by opening doctoral programs (S3) in the fields of Education and Management, which have now started accepting new students.
“This step proves that UMSU continues to grow. We are also grateful that UMSU’s new student admissions remain above 5,000 each year. This shows the public’s trust in UMSU and serves as evidence of our commitment to producing quality graduates,” said Prof. Agussani.
In addition, Prof. Agussani stated that UMSU provides full support for the scientific works of students and lecturers through internal grant programs. In the international field, UMSU continues to be active in the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards program. (IISMA). Currently, two UMSU students are continuing their studies in Thailand and the Czech Republic through the program.
“UMSU equips students with the values of Al-Islam, soft skills, and technological competencies framed by hard work and perseverance. This is what distinguishes UMSU graduates from graduates of other universities,” added Prof. Agussani.
The UMSU Rector also announced the construction of Campus IV in Saentis village, designed to support academic activities and the preparation for the Muhammadiyah Congress. In addition, this university has achieved success by winning medals at the PIMNAS event and the Abdidaya Ormawa 2024 program.
Prof. Agussani concluded his speech by expressing gratitude to the parents and alumni for their trust in UMSU,
“We hope that UMSU’s programs continue to receive support, so that they can produce highly competitive graduates and provide broad benefits to society,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the representative of the outstanding graduates, Andika Zulhan Wahyudi, a graduate of FKIP and a participant of IISMA at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. In his speech, Andika shared a story of a winding struggle until he was finally able to achieve international recognition.
“I applied to many programs until I finally got the opportunity to go to Croatia through IISMA. With the help of UMSU, I even got to experience winter in Europe, enjoy the view of the Eiffel Tower, and learn from the world’s best universities,” he said.
All those opportunities, he dedicated to his parents who worked hard as factory workers and tailors, as well as UMSU which provided extraordinary support.
The Secretary of PWM North Sumatra, Irwan Syahputra, M.Ag, conveyed a message to the graduates to continue spreading the values of Al Islam and Muhammadiyah in the community.
“We hope that all of you can apply the knowledge you have gained to advance the community, nation, and religion, as well as to promote Islamic preaching through education and tangible works,” he said.
The first day of the graduation ceremony was marked by the recitation of an oath by the outstanding student, Khairul Fahmi, as well as the transfer of the graduation tassel to graduates at various levels of education. This graduation ceremony is a moment of pride for UMSU to continue producing outstanding and noble-minded young generations.
