The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, officially sent off the finalist of the National Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) at Diponegoro University, Semarang, as well as nine students representing UMSU at the 18th National Student Qur’an Recitation Competition (MTQMN) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
“These two events are truly remarkable achievements. For the past seven years, no student has reached the finals of the National Pilmapres. Alhamdulillah, today we finally achieved that milestone,” said the Rector, accompanied by Vice Rector III, Dr. Rudianto, M.Si., during the send-off ceremony held on Wednesday (1/10) at the UMSU VIP Room on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3 Medan.
The Rector emphasized that the students’ achievements in both Pilmapres and MTQMN reflect the university’s commitment to nurturing excellent young talents.
He highlighted the importance of continuous guidance, stating, “All of this is the result of consistent mentoring and training.”
During the event, the Rector also awarded thesis exemption to Anggita Sari Rangkuti from UMSU’s International Class of the Faculty of Economics and Business, who is the only student from North Sumatra to qualify for the national Pilmapres and successfully secure funding for the Student Creativity Program (PKM).
“However, I remind Anggita to manage her time well between Pilmapres and preparation for PIMNAS so that she can stay focused. We pray for success in both,” said Prof. Agussani.
The Rector also encouraged the 18th MTQMN contingent to continue practicing and maintain their health throughout the competition. He expressed appreciation for the new students participating in this year’s event.
He concluded with high hopes:
“We extend our highest appreciation. May these achievements continue to grow, and may UMSU students consistently shine in every competition. Keep up the good fight.”
Earlier, the Secretary of UMSU’s LPTQ, Dr. Abdu Rahman, M.Pd, reported that from 14 qualified students, 9 were selected after internal evaluations. He also elaborated on the preparation and target for the 18th MTQMN.
“InsyaAllah, the 9 UMSU delegates will depart on October 5, Rector. Our target is to win the second national overall title. In previous years, we have even won first place nationally,” he said.
He noted that preparations included three weeks of intensive training.
“Alhamdulillah, the entire process has been fully supported by UMSU. In fact, this year UMSU has the highest number of MTQ award recipients,” he added.
Anggita, accompanied by her mentor Muhammad Shareza Hafiz, S.E., M.Acc, expressed gratitude for the university’s support.

“I am truly grateful to have reached this stage. It’s been a long journey from the initial selection until now. None of this would have been possible without the guidance and support from all levels at UMSU, both financially and mentally,” she said.
She shared that her achievements stemmed from active involvement in campus and national–international programs:
“I have been active in OIC, joined the Ahmad Dahlan Youth Camp in Yogyakarta, represented UMSU in youth programs in the Philippines and Malaysia, won first place in the HAGO Accounting Olympiad, served as a North Sumatra Language Ambassador, and secured PKM funding. All of these were supported by the university and faculty,” she added.
Meanwhile, Zalfa, a first-year student from the Faculty of Islamic Studies and one of the MTQMN participants, also shared her appreciation:
“Thank you so much to UMSU for supporting students like us who have non-academic talents. Other campuses may not be as attentive. This is my first time participating, and my target is simply to give my best.”
The National Pilmapres Final will take place from October 25–29, 2025, and UMSU’s MTQMN delegates—Mahmud Kholil, Sakinah, Mursyid Afandi, Mochilia, M. Nasrullah Jamil, Durratul Hikmah, Daud Sitorus, Zalfa, and Farhan Wildan—will compete from October 6–9, 2025.
Also in attendance were the Head of the UMSU Student Affairs Bureau, Dr. Radiman, S.E., M.Si.; Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dr. Hasrudy Tanjung, S.E., M.Si.; Vice Chair of SRCC UMSU, Dr. Edy Suprayetno, M.Pd; and Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau, Dr. Ribut Priadi, S.Sos., M.I.Kom.
