The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P., distributed 1,529 Ramadan aid packages containing basic necessities to communities around the campus as a gesture of care and solidarity during Ramadan 1447 H.

The distribution began with 342 packages for residents living near the main campus on Jalan Kapten Muchtar Basri. The handover ceremony was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business Hall, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Tuesday (March 3).

This Ramadan distribution is an annual program carried out by UMSU. In addition to the main campus area, packages were also distributed to communities around the postgraduate campus (125 packages), the Faculty of Medicine (125 packages), the integrated campus in Sampali (180 packages), local government officials such as subdistrict and village heads (30 packages), Muhammadiyah General Hospital (341 packages), outsourcing staff (261 packages), volunteers across UMSU (105 packages), and cleaning personnel (20 packages).

The Rector expressed his appreciation for the continued support of the surrounding community.

“We are grateful for UMSU’s journey at Muchtar Basri. This campus would not exist without the support of all of you. Alhamdulillah, UMSU continues to grow thanks to the prayers and support of the community,” he said.

He also encouraged open communication between the university and the public. “If there are suggestions or feedback, please share them with faculty leaders. We are focused on character development and academic excellence so our graduates are ready to compete and create job opportunities,” he added.

Furthermore, the Rector emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination on security, comfort, and infrastructure around the campus—especially as the main campus will be visited by participants during the 2027 Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Congress.

“We hope that road access and drainage infrastructure leading to the campus will receive attention. Next year, this educational district will become one of the congress locations and will be visited by many participants,” he said.

Prof. Agussani also invited the community to continue supporting UMSU’s development.

“We are currently developing Campus IV in Sampali. There is no need for concern—the main campus will remain active. We hope that this year and next, UMSU can admit up to 6,000 new students,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of Glugur Darat II Village, Ahmad Fadhil Siregar, expressed appreciation for UMSU’s support in community activities.

“Our village has participated in various competitions and achieved victories, all supported by UMSU. Without that support, we would not have succeeded,” he said.

He also addressed ongoing concerns regarding drainage infrastructure. “We have raised this issue, and we hope that drainage development will be realized soon,” he added.

Fadhil reassured residents not to worry about the development of the integrated campus in Dwikora, Pasar IV, Desa Saentis, Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang.

“There is no need to worry, as the Rector has clearly stated that the Muchtar Basri campus will remain,” he affirmed.

A community representative, Yardin, also noted that UMSU has had a positive impact, particularly on the local economy.

“This contribution is significant, especially in terms of economic impact around the campus. UMSU continues to have a large student population, which supports the surrounding community. The presence of this campus helps produce intelligent and high-achieving young people,” he said.

The aid packages were symbolically handed over by the Rector, accompanied by Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum., and Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., to community representatives, including the Secretary of Medan Timur District Gorby Sebastian Bakara, S.STP., M.A.P., Head of Glugur Darat II Village Ahmad Fadhil Siregar, Babinsa Koptu Joko Handoyo, and Bhabinkamtibmas Brigpol Leonardo Manalu, S.H.
