EducationUSA at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) organized a sharing session on study opportunities in the United States in collaboration with Wichita State University, themed “Navigating Graduate Programs and Opportunities.” The event took place in the meeting room at the UMSU campus on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Thursday (March 12).
The session was officially opened by Vice Rector III, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si., and attended by Lisa Podolny, Associate Director of Marketing and Finance at Wichita State University, Fai Tai, and Dimas Firdauz Samudra.
The event aimed to facilitate the exchange of information on study opportunities and academic collaboration.
In his remarks, Vice Rector III Dr. Rudianto introduced UMSU to the guests and participants, emphasizing the university’s openness to global partnerships.
“Welcome to UMSU. We warmly welcome the presence of the U.S. Embassy on our campus. We hope this activity will bring benefits for all of us in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, U.S. Consulate representative Lisa Podolny expressed her appreciation to UMSU for hosting the event.
“Thank you to UMSU for hosting this session. I am pleased to return here and truly appreciate the participants from various universities,” she stated.
During the session, she highlighted that Wichita State University is located in the state of Kansas and offers a wide range of academic programs.
Fai Tai, Associate Director of Marketing and Finance, also introduced the university in more detail. He explained that the campus is strategically located about 15 minutes from the airport and offers diverse academic fields.
“Our university offers programs in business, engineering, liberal arts and sciences, applied studies, education, fine arts, health professions, as well as innovation and digital fields,” he explained.
He also noted that the university provides scholarship opportunities for international students.
“We offer scholarships of up to $6,000 per year for eligible students,” he added.
This activity is expected to open broader opportunities for Indonesian students, particularly from UMSU and other universities, to pursue higher education in the United States while strengthening international academic collaboration networks in the future.
The event concluded with the presentation of an ulos cloth as a symbol of respect and friendship between both parties.
