The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held a graduation and oath-taking ceremony for 44 graduates of the Medical Professional Education Program (Class of the 45th cohort). The event took place at the FKIK Auditorium on Jalan Gedung Arca No. 53, West Teladan, Medan, on April 14.
In his remarks, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP stated that the success in producing new doctors is the result of a long journey since the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in 2008. He emphasized that medical education is not merely about earning an academic degree, but about shaping professionals who are ready to serve society.
“We established the Faculty of Medicine not just to produce graduates, but to nurture professional doctors who are ready to carry out their duties,” he said.
Prof. Agussani also expressed appreciation to parents for their trust in UMSU.
“From the GPA results we saw earlier—ranging up to 4.00, with one reaching 3.86—these achievements reflect not just requirements, but a process carried out with responsibility,” he noted.
He encouraged the new doctors to uphold the good name of their alma mater.
“Wherever you go, be outstanding, intelligent, and trustworthy doctors,” he advised.
Earlier, the Dean of FKIK UMSU, dr. Siti Masliana Siregar, Sp.THT-KL., Subsp.Rino(K), congratulated the graduates for completing a rigorous six-year education.
“Earning the title of doctor today is a mandate. There is still one more stage ahead—an internship year. The new doctors will undergo six months of internship at community health centers and six months at hospitals under the supervision of senior physicians,” she explained.
She also expressed pride in the quality of FKIK UMSU graduates, noting strong demand from healthcare institutions and an 80% pass rate in the national competency exam (UKMPPD).
“Stakeholders have shown high satisfaction with our alumni, which is why they continue to request our graduates,” she said.
She added that from 2014 to 2026, FKIK UMSU has produced more than 1,300 medical graduates working across various healthcare sectors.
“As doctors, this is not the end of learning—be lifelong learners,” she advised.

FKIK UMSU continues to expand its international collaborations, including pursuing recognition from the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and establishing student exchange programs with universities in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, a representative of the graduates, dr. Firya Nadine Chalishny Sukatendel, stated that the oath-taking ceremony marks not just a graduation, but the beginning of a lifelong commitment to service.

“Today is not merely a ceremony, but the start of a new journey. We stand here as doctors ready to dedicate ourselves to society, the nation, and humanity,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to university leaders, lecturers, and affiliated teaching hospitals for their guidance throughout the clinical education process.
“The knowledge, patience, and exemplary conduct you have given us have shaped not only our academic abilities, but also our character and integrity as ethical and compassionate doctors,” she added.
The event was attended by UMSU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin Gultom, M.Hum (Vice Rector I), Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd (Vice Rector II), and Assoc.
