Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) has been ranked the number one Islamic university in the world out of 435 Islamic higher education institutions, according to the 2025 rankings released by 4ICU University Rankings (UniRank).
This achievement places UMSU ahead of world-renowned institutions such as Cairo University, Jordan University of Science and Technology, International Islamic University Malaysia, Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia, and Universitas Islam Indonesia.
In other categories, UMSU also secured top positions:

UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP expressed deep gratitude for this global recognition.

The 4 International Colleges & Universities (4ICU) or UniRank is a global university ranking and directory published by the web-based platform 4icu.org. Each year, it releases global and national rankings of higher education institutions.
In addition to UniRank, UMSU has also earned international recognition from leading global ranking institutions such as MQA Malaysia, QS Stars, and AppliedHE, placing it 21st among the best private universities in ASEAN, as well as being listed in the THE Impact Rankings.
