The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, distributed as many as 600 packages of essential food assistance to residents around the campus environment as a form of caring for the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as building togetherness in the Holy Month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri, Tuesday (19/4).
Distributing essential food packages was carried out symbolically to residents’ representatives. In addition, the UMSU Ramadan package was also given to sub-district heads, village heads, and residents around campus.
The Rector said that giving UMSU basic food packages to residents around campus was a routine activity as a form of concern and was part of the tri dharma of higher education, especially community service.
Basic food packages were distributed to residents around the campus environment on Jalan Kapten Mukhtar, Basri, Faculty of Medicine Campus, Postgraduate also to help ease the burden due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The provision of food packages also gives meaning; UMSU does not only focus on education issues but also cares about community social issues and health,” said Prof Agussani.
In addition, this sharing activity will give birth to a spirit of togetherness and show a solid inner relationship between UMSU and the community around the campus.
Furthermore, he said, UMSU will continue to strive to maintain this inner relationship through many activities that have been felt by the community so far. For example, assistance for basic food packages has been given 12 times while Prof. Agussani, MAP, has served as Rector.
Prof. Agussani hopes that establishing better silaturahim between the campus and the surrounding residents will give birth to comfort and security so that the community’s interest in continuing their education at UMSU will continue to increase.
Packages that were distributed to residents included rice and cooking oil.
Food assistance packages were distributed to cleaning service employees and security unit personnel.
The District Head of East Medan, Noor Alfi Pane, who was also present at the distribution of essential food packages to residents around the UMSU campus, expressed his appreciation for the caring attitude that has become a tradition. The primary food packages provided by UMSU are significant for residents, exceptionally the less fortunate.
The sub-district and all levels are ready to synergize with UMSU to maintain a conducive atmosphere and to carry out development programs.
Meanwhile, Suparmin representing the surrounding community, expressed his gratitude for the concern of UMSU, which routinely assists with basic food packages every year. The service received by the community is significant, especially in the atmosphere of the Covid-19 pandemic.
