118 students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara are participating in internships and certified independent studies under the Merdeka Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) program. These students come from various faculties and are spread out across different regions of Indonesia, including Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Papua.
To ensure the condition and condition of all participants, UMSU held an online Halo MBKM Program attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP, represented by Vice Rector III Rudianto, Chairperson of the MBKM Unit Murviana Koto, MSIB Program PIC Lufriansyah, Faculty Leaders at UMSU and all student interns, Saturday (5/13).
Generally, students do not return to their hometowns during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. It is due to the distance of the internship location and the busy activities in their respective companies. In this activity, several students provided information and testimonials regarding their situation in the internship location and the benefits obtained through this MBKM program.
Rizki Ananda, one of the students who interned at PUPR, was placed in Jayapura, Papua. He reported being in Indonesia’s most remote province for two months. During his internship, he gained work experience to repair and improve the housing quality in Papua. Every day he is accustomed to interacting with residents. Therefore, Riski now claims to be able to speak Papuan. He also admitted that he was not worried about living there because the locals were amiable.
Other students who conveyed their experiences were Wahyu Setia Aji, who did an Internship at Japfa in Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi—followed by Rani’s placement at the Hasnur Center Foundation in South Kalimantan. Rani said she was happy to carry out humanitarian projects that helped many people in South Kalimantan in her internship activities.
Rio Nasution, a student who interned at PT United Tractor Jakarta, also shared his experience. During his internship, Rio had the opportunity to work in the Jababeka industrial area. The experiences of other students who carry out independent studies are no less attractive.
Mutia, one of the students who participated in the independent study program at PT Global Investama, felt grateful for the opportunity to learn about information technology. Although she comes from the Sharia Business Management Study Program, she is lucky because she can learn IT through the MBKM program from experienced companies and practitioners.
