Thirty-one professional practitioners from state-owned enterprises, private companies, and government agencies will become lecturers at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara for one semester through the Teaching Practitioners program. The practitioners will teach 33 subjects in various faculties, including the Faculty of Economics and Business, Law, Engineering, Teacher Training and Education, Islamic Religion, and Social and Political Sciences, by collaborating with permanent UMSU lecturers.
The Teaching Practitioner Program was officially opened by UMSU Vice Rector III Dr. Rudianto.M.Si, attended by the Chairperson of the UMSU MBKM Unit Murviana Koto, Teaching Practitioner Program PIC Khairunnisa and all practitioners and lecturers involved in the program Wednesday (10/5/2023).
In his remarks, Dr. Rudianto said that through the Teaching Practitioner Program, UMSU lecturers and students will have the opportunity to explore knowledge, expertise, and competence from professionals in their respective fields. It aligns with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) principle.
In addition, this program can bring closer the distance between universities that produce graduates and the industrial world as users of graduates through collaboration in the teaching and learning process, “So far, the campus has tried to bring its graduates closer to the industrial world so that they are easily accepted by users, through this program it will make it easier for us to know what kind of graduate competencies are needed by the business and industrial world,” he said.
Previously, the Chairperson of the UMSU MBKM Unit Murviana Koto, SE, M. Si, in her report, said that more than 200 practitioners registered to become practitioner lecturers at UMSU through the Teaching Practitioner Program in 2023. However, only 31 people can be accommodated and collaborate with permanent lecturers who teach courses. The 31 practitioners came from Pertamina, PT Railway Industry, Adhi Karya, Laznas, BPS, Ministry of Finance, Cabinet Secretariat, District Court, National Banking, WWF, Inspectorate, and OJK.
The practitioners will collaborate with the lecturers of each subject to provide learning materials using information technology. This program has been ongoing since 2022 and is funded by Kemendikbudristek.
