Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) has successfully qualified 86 proposals in the Student Creativity Program (PKM) competition recently announced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) on Friday, June 16. This marks a 100 percent increase compared to the 42 proposals that were approved in 2022. With this achievement, UMSU has attained the top position among private higher education institutions (PTS) in Indonesia and ranks 12th among national universities/PTS in the field of PKM for the year 2023.
UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP, expressed gratitude for the success of the students under the guidance of UMSU’s Student Research and Creativity Centre (SRCC), who managed to secure a total of 86 approved proposals. He stated that this is the highest number of proposals that UMSU has achieved in its participation in the PKM. “Alhamdulillah, this is an incredibly proud achievement. UMSU’s students are truly exceptional. Through the guidance of SRCC, we were able to achieve this fantastic number,” he said. He hopes that this success can be maintained in the future and also commits to making PKM a creative culture among UMSU students.
Meanwhile, Fatimah Sari Siregar, the Chairperson of SRCC UMSU, explained that the 86 approved proposals from UMSU students have received funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the year 2023, across 8 fields: PKMK, PKMKC, PKMKI, PKMPI, PKMPM, PKMRE, PKMRSH, and PKMVGK. She mentioned that for the year 2023, UMSU collected over 1200 titles, which were then narrowed down to 425 titles through a selection process. UMSU subsequently provided guidance for the preparation and selection of proposals and successfully submitted 250 proposals to Kemndikbudristek.
“The students’ enthusiasm was remarkably high, with over 1200 titles submitted, and we worked diligently to select the best 250 for submission,” she stated.
