The Institute for Cooperation and International Affairs, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (LK-UI UMSU), held preparations for students participating in the 2022 Indonesian Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) selection.
The events were held online Saturday (19/03), presenting the Head of the IISMA Working Group Kemdikbud Ristek, Dr.Eng. Ir. R. Rachmat A. Sriwijaya, ST, MT, D.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng as speakers.
IISMA is one of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) programs under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Students who graduate from this program require students to run the program directly at an international university. The goal is to get hands-on experience related to international campus facilities, learning systems, and the environment at the university.
UMSU, through LK UI and Bimawa, screens students who are ready to become IISMA participants in 2022. A series of internal selections have been carried out until students who are equipped with English language competency tests to write motivation letters are selected.
IISMA registration opens from 1-31 March 2022, and UMSU continues to prepare students. The IISMA was opened by OIC UMSU Rafieqah Nalar Rizky, S.Sos, MA, “Thank you, Dr. Rachmat has been willing to attend and provide direction to UMSU students to face IISMA 2022. With bismillahirrahmanirrahim, the preparation for IISMA 2022 is opened,” said Rafieqah.
Seeing the preparation progress for UMSU students who will step into the IISMA selection, Dr. Rachmat appreciated the vigorous efforts of UMSU students to participate globally. He also said that IISMA had become the prima donna program for today’s students because, through this program, students have the opportunity to develop competencies for the future by studying abroad for free.
In addition, Dr. Rachmat underlined that students who pass IISMA 2022 get the right in the form of recognition, not conversion. This acknowledgment means that whatever courses are taken during IISMA, the value is equivalent to 20 credits. Therefore, this acknowledgment is not a credit or modification that has to be adjusted to the study.
“Please, universities and students don’t have to worry about this credit and conversion anymore,” said Dr. Rachmat.
Based on MBKM rules, students have the right to use 3 semesters, namely 5, 6, and 7, to study in other study programs or the same study program outside UMSU. Therefore, if a student registers for IISMA and it has been approved by the Head of the Study Program, then the registering party must agree to study courses outside the university and study program.
The preparatory event continued with a discussion session and sharing of IISMA experiences with M. Sholahuddin Al Ayubi as the recipient of IISMA at Glasgow University Scotland and Shopia Clara as the recipient of IISMA Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. (Pny)
