As many as 1,050 new students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) broke the Muri Record by holding the most joint rhyme sessions.
The breaking of the Muri Record for reciprocating rhymes was held on the sidelines of the 2022 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) last Tuesday (27/9/2022).
The UMSU MURI Record Charter was handed over directly by the MURI representative, Triyono, to the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP.
Also witnessed by other MURI representatives, Andre Purwandono, Chair of BPH UMSU, Dr. H. Bahril Datuk, MM, vice Rectors, and the ranks of the deans at UMSU.
“Breaking the MURI record is one of UMSU’s participations in enlivening the Muktamar Muhammadiyah agenda, which will be held in Solo this year,” explained UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP., quoted from the Muhammadiyah Research and Development Directorate page, Friday (30/9/2022).
Rector Agussani said that breaking the MURI record was also used to preserve and instill a love of national culture in the younger generation, especially new UMSU students.
The pantun performance was chosen because pantun is an integral part of the people of North Sumatra, which consists of various ethnicities, one of which is the Malay culture.
This MURI record also adds to the number of awards received by UMSU after previously receiving the MURI World Record for observing a solar eclipse with the giant pinhole camera.
In breaking the Muri record, the activity was guided by a team of UMSU students who won the national rhyme competition held by Balai Pustaka.
The rhyme guide made the MURI record-breaking atmosphere lively because it was interspersed with hilarious rhymes that invited laughter.
In breaking the MURI world record for the most number of rhymes, students, numbering more than 1,000 people, were divided into two groups with three pantun categories.
The number of rhymes is calculated from the event’s start until it ends with the students.
The theme read was the Muhammadiyah congress, education, and UMSU.
For information, for 2022, 5,007 new students are participating in the PKKMB.
PKKMB activities are divided into four waves from 26 to 28 September 2022.
Rector Agussani said that more than 5,000 millennials from various regions had chosen UMSU as a university to reach the future.
“That is the right choice because UMSU is the best tertiary institution in North Sumatra for three consecutive years (2019, 2020, 2021) from L2DIKTI,” he said.
