United States Cultural Attache Emily Yasmin Norris (Cultural Affairs Officer) visited Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara to strengthen educational collaboration.
UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector III, Dr. Rudianto, MSi, revealed that the presence of the US Cultural Attache to UMSU was an honor because it opened up opportunities for increased collaboration.
“The United States government also offers UMSU students and lecturers opportunities to get study facilities in America,” he told reporters Sunday (4/12).
Rudianto expressed his appreciation for the presence of the American Cultural Attache, Emily Yasmin Noris, at the UMSU Campus. Of course, this visit was special because much information was obtained from the visit.
“America is the country with the best education management in the world. UMSU must use it to learn and work together,” said Rudianto.
On the other hand, Rudianto said that UMSU must be able to provide America with a comprehensive picture of Indonesia’s diverse culture.
Rudi said that UMSU already had experience collaborating with the Americans, including the presence of nativedeen and RELO (Regional English Language Office), who were guest lecturers at UMSU.
Rudianto hopes that the collaboration that has existed and will be carried out can be part of the UMSU internationalization program in the future. “Another important part is that the collaboration between UMSU and America can lead to a mix of cults (cultures), so it does not have to be related to research,” explained Rudianto.
Rudianto also appreciated that UMSU was involved in the US-Asean University Connective Initiative Program.
Meanwhile, Emily Yasmin Noris said she was happy to be able to arrive in Medan and to be able to visit the great UMSU Campus. Emily hopes to know more about the culture of North Sumatra as well as about education here. “I need to absorb it myself and meet cultural figures here. I also like to drink coffee produced in North Sumatra,” said Emily.
Emily emphasized that the United States opens opportunities and opportunities for cooperation with Indonesia in the field of education and culture. For this opportunity, Emily explained various information that can also be accessed on various social media platforms and the official website of the United States Embassy.
For example, to get lecture facilities in America, which has 4,000 universities, Emily said Indonesian people could access information on the official website.
Related to Indonesian and American student exchanges, it is an exciting one that can be utilized between the two countries. Through this program, Indonesian students can study for one year and live with an American family.
Emily hopes his visit to UMSU can strengthen the cooperation between Indonesia and the United States, which is already so good.
