The North Sumatra Regional Police organized “Polwan Goes to Campus” at the University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the women’s police unit.

The event was inaugurated by the UMSU Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector UMSU Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd, on Monday, August 7th, in the VIP room at UMSU located at Jalan Muchtar Basri No.3, Medan.

“Polwan Goes to Campus” featured a talk show titled “Education to Prevent Sexual Violence,” which was attended by students. The event had three speakers: AKBP Feriana R Gultom, S.H., M.H, the Head of Sub-Directorate IV for Children, Youth, and Women’s Affairs in the North Sumatra Regional Police; Syahdan Lubis, the Head of the Regional Office for Women and Children’s Protection (UPTD PPA) in the North Sumatra Provincial Government; and AKP Yunita Restu Widya, SIP, the Head of Unit I in Sub-Directorate V Cybercrime in the North Sumatra Regional Police. The talk show was moderated by Dr. Cut Novita Srikandi, S.S., M.Hum, a lecturer at FKIP UMSU.

In his opening remarks, Vice Rector II UMSU, Prof. Akrim, highlighted the importance of the “Polwan Goes to Campus” event for the UMSU academic community, including students and faculty. He emphasized the positive collaboration between UMSU and the North Sumatra Regional Police.

“We would like to thank the female police officers from the North Sumatra Regional Police for choosing UMSU as the venue for the Polwan Goes to Campus talk show. This event is crucial, especially considering that, in various media reports, sexual harassment is often perpetrated by people close to the victims. We hope that this talk show can provide information on how to protect oneself from sexual violence, which is a concern for all of us,” said Prof. Akrim.

Chairperson of the 75th Anniversary Committee of the North Sumatra Regional Police in 2003, AKBP Arnis Syafni Yanti, S.E., M.M, stated that UMSU is a welcoming and interactive institution that has engaged in several positive collaborations with the North Sumatra Regional Police.

“This event focuses on the discussion of sexual violence crimes, which is important for students, the future generation, to be aware of and avoid becoming involved in such crimes. We hope to provide benefits and insights to UMSU students regarding sexual violence crimes and help them avoid becoming either perpetrators or victims,” said AKBP Arnis.

As one of the speakers, AKBP Feriana R Gultom, S.H., M.H, provided information about sexual violence.

“Renakta is one form of government concern aimed at providing protection. In the media, we often hear about sexual violence, and it’s like an iceberg where only a small portion is reported, but much more occurs due to various reasons, such as fear, shame, not knowing where to report, and guilt,” explained AKBP Feriana.

Syahdan Lubis, from the North Sumatra Provincial Government, discussed the role of the provincial government in protecting women and addressing sexual crimes. He introduced the legal foundations of sexual violence crimes, types of sexual violence, and the services provided by the Women and Children’s Protection Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD PPA).

Finally, the talk show concluded with a presentation by AKP Yunita Restu Widya, SIP, on being smart and safe on social media. She highlighted various online crimes to be aware of, such as online pedophilia, child grooming, sextortion, love scams, cyberbullying, and online fraud.
