The collaboration between the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) and UMSU’s Faculty of Law resulted in a thought-provoking public lecture and panel discussion focusing on the internalization and institutionalization of Pancasila values within the legal framework for Academic and Pancasila Study Centers in North Sumatra Province. The event, held at the UMSU Main Campus Auditorium on Thursday (11/30), attracted a significant attendance of students.
According to Vice Dean I of UMSU’s Faculty of Law, the event engaged hundreds of students, particularly from law faculties in Medan. Distinguished figures such as Deputy for Law, Advocacy, and Regulatory Supervision Kemas Ahmad Tajuddin SH MH, Head of the Ideology of National Insight and National Character of the North Sumatra Provincial Government Muhammad Adri Simatung, along with experts like Dr. Surya Perdana S.H., M.Hum, and Dr. Eka Nam Sihombing, graced the occasion.
The public lecture commenced with an address from Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, S.H., M.Hum. Stressing the importance and continued relevance of nurturing the Pancasila Ideology, Arifin highlighted the ongoing efforts initiated through the P4 Program by the BP-7 institution. He emphasized the necessity for constant socialization and enforcement of Pancasila values. He referenced Vice President Soedarmono’s stance on the continuous development of these values, pointing out instances of corruption despite officials attending P4 training.
Vice-Rector Prof. Arifin underscored the pivotal role of proper law enforcement in ensuring the effectiveness of Pancasila values in shaping behavior. He expressed hope that the propagation of these values would begin from within individuals themselves.
Cultivating a profound appreciation for Pancasila, Deputy for Law, Advocacy, and Regulatory Oversight Kemas Ahmad Tajuddin SH MH conveyed gratitude to UMSU for facilitating the event. He highlighted the mandate outlined in Presidential Regulation No.7 / 2018 concerning BPIP, emphasizing BPIP’s responsibility in perpetuating the Pancasila values, especially among the younger generation.
The panel discussion, a vital segment of the BPIP Public Lecture, featured four speakers. Dr. Antonius Benny Susetyo joined remotely through Zoom, presenting on “Pancasila Values in the Formation of Legislation.” Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin SH MHum delivered insights on “Strengthening Pancasila in Merdeka Belajar.” At the same time, Dr. Surya Perdana SH M.Hum focused on “Pancasila as a Fundamental Norm.” Dr. Eka Nam Sihombing addressed “Harmonization of Legislation Based on Indicators of Pancasila Values.”
The event culminated in a poignant moment when President Jokowi’s message regarding the imperative nature of embedding Pancasila ideology into every legal aspect was shared, emphasizing its profound societal impact.
