The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UMSU held the release of all students in the ‘FISIP UMSU Support and Guard the 2024 Election’ program. This activity was attended and appreciated by the ranks of the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of the North Sumatra province on Friday morning (12/1) in the FISIP UMSU courtyard on Jalan Muchtar Bari No.3 Medan.
Payung Harahap, S.E., M.M., as a member of Bawaslu, expressed his appreciation for this activity because it was included in participatory supervision from the community, namely UMSU lecturers and students.
“UMSU’s position is currently strategic in the success of the General Election on February 14, 2024. Hopefully, students can participate in guarding and monitoring the elections later so that they run well,” he said.
He also said that if students find violations, they can be submitted to the KPU and the local Bawaslu.
Then, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, who was present, also appreciated the program initiated by FISIP UMSU. He said this activity resulted from a long series of collaborations between UMSU, KPU, and Bawaslu at the central or provincial levels.
“In the 2024 elections, 55% are novice or millennial voters with a very extraordinary process to determine the future. You all certainly have knowledge during college, so it needs to be implemented in this year’s elections, “said the Rector of UMSU.
Prof. Agussani said that he would give prizes as a form of appreciation to student groups from 3 study programs at FISIP UMSU if they could provide good reports and findings while guarding and supporting the 2024 elections.
“This is, of course, a very extraordinary momentum; the briefing earlier encouraged participation, guarding, and encouraging elections in 2024 so that lecturers and students actively participate,” said the Rector of UMSU.
Meanwhile, as the North Sumatra KPU, Robby Efendi, said that the KPU gained the most public trust, he invited students to the polling station and oversaw the 2024 elections.
“Thank you to all levels of UMSU for continuing to support and oversee the elections on February 14, 2024. We hope that UMSU can be a good election friend,” hoped Robby.
Previously, the Dean of FISIP UMSU, Dr. Arifin Saleh, S.Sos., MSP, reported that this activity encouraged all FISIP UMSU students and lecturers to actively participate in coming to the Polling Station (TPS) to vote.
“At least 10,000 voters will come to the polling station to vote from FISIP activities covered by various media. FISIP UMSU is ready to support and oversee the democratic party in 2024,” said the Dean of FISIP enthusiastically.
