Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) has received an award as the Best University Supporting Community Empowerment for partners of Bank BTPN Syariah.
The award was presented by BTPN Syariah Director Dwiyono B. Winantio to UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P. in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 25). The ceremony was witnessed by the Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, M. Izzul Muslimin, S.IP. Also in attendance were the Secretary of PWM North Sumatra Irwansyah Putra, M.A., Treasurer Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qorib, M.A., Vice Secretary Drs. Mutholib, M.M., and UMSU Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd.
The award was granted in recognition of UMSU’s positive contribution to mentoring and empowering communities who are partners of BTPN Syariah.
UMSU earned the top distinction based on its performance from 2022 to 2025, during which it successfully assisted more than 2,900 BTPN Syariah clients, involving over 120 students. Similar awards were also presented to other institutions, including Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama, and UIN Imam Bonjol Padang.
BTPN Syariah Director Dwiyono B. Winantio stated that the award serves as an appreciation for higher education institutions that have contributed and created a positive impact on society, particularly for BTPN Syariah partners. He noted that this was the first time such recognition had been given to partner universities and expressed hope that it would inspire future initiatives.
Appreciation was also conveyed by the Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, M. Izzul Muslimin, S.IP., who congratulated UMSU on receiving the award.
“We hope this recognition will motivate UMSU to further strengthen its role in community empowerment in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.A.P. expressed gratitude for the award from BTPN Syariah.
“As a higher education institution, UMSU is committed to contributing to society—not only by improving the quality of education, but also by advancing socio-economic empowerment,” he stated.
He added that UMSU’s empowerment initiatives are part of the university’s implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education while also supporting the Ministry’s Impactful Campus program.
Therefore, student involvement in these empowerment programs plays a crucial role in developing their skills while generating meaningful benefits for the community.
