The Organizing Committee for the 49th Muhammadiyah–‘Aisyiyah Congress, led by Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP., Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), together with the Chairman of Pimpinan Wilayah Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (PWM North Sumatra), Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution, M.A., paid a courtesy visit and conducted a promotional outreach regarding preparations for the 2027 Congress to Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) on Tuesday (February 24).
The delegation was warmly received by UMJ Rector Prof. Dr. Ma’mun Murod, S.Sos., M.Si., along with vice rectors, faculty deans, and institutional leaders. Also present were the PWM North Sumatra Secretary Irwansyah Putra, M.A.; Treasurer Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qorib, M.A.; Deputy Secretary Drs. Mutholib, M.M.; UMSU Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd.; and Head of Public Relations and Protocol Dr. Ribut Priadi, M.I.Kom.
As Chair of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Agussani outlined the progress of preparations, both in terms of venue development and North Sumatra’s readiness as host. Construction of the “Auditorium of Progress,” which began in early December 2025, has reached 35.5 percent completion, while the Walidah Sports Hall has reached 50 percent.
Beyond venue construction, the committee has undertaken extensive coordination with provincial and district governments, as well as key stakeholders. Outreach efforts have also been conducted with Muhammadiyah regional leaderships across Java and Eastern Indonesia.
“We recently visited UHAMKA, which has expressed its readiness to assist the committee in preparing for the Congress,” Prof. Agussani stated.
He expressed hope that UMJ’s leadership and academic community would actively participate in ensuring the success of the 49th Congress—an event expected to shape Muhammadiyah’s direction for the next 25 years.
Meanwhile, PWM North Sumatra Chairman Prof. Hasyimsyah Nasution emphasized that although technological advancements could simplify the Congress process, the event is far more than an election of Muhammadiyah’s leadership for the next five years.
“The Muhammadiyah Congress must be celebrated as a vehicle of da’wah and public outreach, strengthening Muhammadiyah’s presence at both national and international levels,” he said.

On that occasion, UMJ Rector Prof. Ma’mun Murod pledged full support by mobilizing members of the academic community to attend the Congress. To that end, UMJ has prepared a budget allocation—double the usual amount—to support participation in the event.
In addition, starting in April 2026, UMJ will initiate a personal infak (voluntary donation) movement to further support attendees traveling to Medan for the Congress.
“This donation drive is intended to support UMJ colleagues who wish to travel to Medan and enliven the Congress,” he explained.

The 49th Muhammadiyah Congress will be held in North Sumatra in 2027. The grand gathering, expected to attract hundreds of thousands of Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah members from across Indonesia and abroad, marks a historic milestone for North Sumatra as host.
The Congress will take place at UMSU’s Integrated Campus in Saentis Village, Deli Serdang. On the approximately 25-hectare site, an auditorium with a capacity of 7,000 and a sports hall accommodating 2,500 attendees are currently under construction.
