The Regional Leadership of the Forum of Alumni Families of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (FOKAL IMM) North Sumatra held a silaturahmi and halalbihalal gathering at the Main Auditorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Jalan Kapten Mukhtar Basri, Medan, on Saturday (April 18).

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Central Board of FOKAL IMM, Prof. Dr. Ma’mun Murod, M.Si., UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP., Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum., Vice Rector II who also serves as Treasurer of FOKAL IMM North Sumatra Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., representatives from the Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah North Sumatra, a representative of the Governor of North Sumatra through the Head of the National Unity and Politics Agency (Kesbangpol), regional and district/city-level FOKAL IMM administrators across North Sumatra, leaders of Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations at the regional level, as well as hundreds of IMM cadres from UMSU.

In his speech, Chairman of the Central Board of FOKAL IMM, Prof. Dr. Ma’mun Murod, emphasized that Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) carry both moral and organizational responsibilities to sustain the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM).

“I often say, regardless of one’s student organizational background, once they become structural officials within PTMA, they are obliged to support and nurture IMM. In reality, IMM is sometimes even hindered, despite being an official autonomous organization of Muhammadiyah,” he asserted.

The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) highlighted IMM’s strategic role in sustaining Muhammadiyah’s cadre regeneration.

“Muhammadiyah is a cadre-based organization. Its continuity depends on having a strong pool of cadres, both in quantity and quality,” he explained.

He added that among the three key autonomous organizations within PTMA—IMM, Tapak Suci, and Hizbul Wathan—IMM plays the most strategic role in producing organizational cadres.

“If IMM members at least complete the Darul Arqam Dasar (DAD), then after graduation, around 75 percent of them will become Muhammadiyah administrators,” he noted.

Prof. Ma’mun also stressed the importance of a strong sense of ownership and consistency in maintaining the spirit of IMM’s struggle. He reminded participants that the IMM trilogy—religious, academic, and social dimensions—must remain the foundation of the organization.

“The spirit of IMM’s trilogy must continue to guide us. The key lies in how responsibilities are distributed. I see the social dimension as highly relevant to strengthen,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation for the growing diaspora of IMM cadres from North Sumatra, particularly in politics and public service, where their presence is increasingly visible across strategic sectors.

Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP., reaffirmed his expectation that IMM should remain at the forefront within Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA). He also acknowledged the significant contributions of IMM alumni who now hold strategic and structural positions within UMSU.

Secretary of FOKAL IMM North Sumatra, Ahmad Khairuddin, S.E., M.Si., explained that the gathering aimed to maintain solidarity and strengthen bonds among IMM alumni in the region. He added that the event also served as a platform to officially grant mandates to several regional FOKAL IMM leaders across districts and cities.

On the other hand, the North Sumatra Provincial Government, represented by the Head of Kesbangpol, Dr. Ir. Mulyono, S.T., M.Si., expressed its commitment to fostering broad and sustainable collaboration with all community elements, including FOKAL IMM.

“The provincial government is open to wide-ranging collaboration, synergy, and partnerships to advance North Sumatra, including with FOKAL IMM,” he stated.

Representing the Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra, Prof. Dr. Hasrat Samosir, M.A., emphasized the vital role of IMM cadres in supporting the success of the 49th Muhammadiyah Congress in North Sumatra.

He stressed that IMM members must act as good hosts within Muhammadiyah institutions and take on strategic roles in ensuring the success of the organization’s major agenda.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Regional Board of IMM North Sumatra, Akbar Mihadits, reported that the IMM movement in the region continues to show significant growth, both in organizational strengthening and cadre expansion.

“Alhamdulillah, we have recently established three new IMM branches in Nias, Padang Lawas, and North Padang Lawas,” he said.
