The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FIKTI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), in collaboration with AMD Indonesia, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and organized a public lecture titled “AMD Tech Gen.” The event took place at the UMSU Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan, on Wednesday (April 29).
The event was officially opened by UMSU Rector Akrim and attended by Dean of FIKTI Al-Khowarizmi along with the vice deans, Head of the Bureau of Systems and Information Technology (BSTI) Yoshida Sary, Consumer Business Development Manager of AMD Indonesia Armawati Cen, Product Marketing Manager of AMD Indonesia Donnie, Microsoft trainee Denny, video editor and content creator Achmad Abdilah, tech reviewer from Gaptech.id Ilham Subki, heads of study programs, lecturers, and FIKTI students.
In his remarks, Rector Akrim explained the development journey of FIKTI since its establishment in 2019. He revealed that when the faculty was first founded, it did not yet have its own academic building, but it continued to grow through optimism and a strong commitment to keeping pace with rapid technological advancement.
According to him, technological transformation is inevitable. Whenever new technologies emerge that can support the university’s needs, UMSU must be ready to adapt.
“Just as we are now transitioning toward electric vehicles, we must also embrace technological innovations such as AMD technology today. We must continue learning because FIKTI was established to support the advancement of IT at UMSU,” he stated.
UMSU itself has been transforming into a digital campus since 2016. In the future, campus services are expected to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) systems and digital employee management. The Rector also encouraged FIKTI students to seriously pursue careers in information technology, considering the growing demand for IT professionals.
He further explained that the transformation toward a digital campus consists of three phases: foundation, acceleration, and excellence. Through this partnership, UMSU’s technological infrastructure will receive support from AMD, while outstanding students will also have opportunities for internships and employment at AMD Malaysia. The goal is for FIKTI students to obtain industry-recognized professional certifications before graduation.
Meanwhile, Consumer Business Development Manager of AMD Indonesia Armawati Cen explained that AMD specializes in processors and graphics cards that continue to redefine computer performance standards.
She also mentioned that one of AMD’s representatives in Medan is a UMSU alumnus, highlighting the broad career opportunities available for students in the future.
“We are no longer only talking about the fastest processors, but about creating devices that are more capable of supporting productivity. Through Ryzen processors, AMD aims to redefine existing performance standards,” she explained.
The event also featured a talk show session hosted by Nadya and Dinda. Several industry practitioners participated as speakers, including Product Marketing Manager of AMD Indonesia Donnie, video editor and content creator Achmad Abdilah, Microsoft trainee Denny, and tech reviewer from Gaptech.id Ilham Subki.
