Ma’had Abu Ubaidah bin Al Jarrah Medan has officially joined Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU). The integration was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd. and Asia Muslim Charity Foundation (AMCF) Director Ahmad Faisal Siregar, S.E., M.M. on Thursday (6/8) in the meeting room at UMSU’s campus on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan.
AMCF Director Ahmad Faisal expressed his appreciation to UMSU for the successful completion of the integration process. He said he was deeply moved that the long-awaited unification had finally been realized.
“I would like to express my appreciation to the Chair of the UMSU Board of Trustees and the Rector. As part of Ma’had, I am deeply moved by this unification process. Hopefully, the program will run smoothly, although some adjustments will be needed,” he said.
AMCF also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of UMSU’s Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir Study Program, including bringing lecturers from the Middle East and promoting international certification as part of the university’s internationalization efforts.
“With the establishment of the Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir Study Program, we will support its development so that it can achieve excellence. Lecturers from the Middle East will teach and support international certification. I am confident that we will continue to support UMSU’s internationalization program,” he said.
The AMCF Director also expressed his gratitude to UMSU for welcoming the Ma’had Abu Ubaidah community into its academic family.
“Thank you and our appreciation for the warm welcome. Ma’had Abu Ubaidah is now our shared responsibility as we enter a new home and embrace UMSU’s culture of excellence,” he concluded.
Previously, UMSU Rector Prof. Akrim expressed his gratitude for the realization of a partnership that had been planned for a long time. He explained that following the signing of the MoU, the management of Ma’had Abu Ubaidah would be integrated into UMSU’s governance system.
“This is something we have been eagerly awaiting. We are very grateful for this meeting, which we have all been looking forward to. Starting today, the entire management of Abu Ubaidah will become part of UMSU. We look forward to discussing the management of the buildings, assets, and facilities. We are confident that this initial step is the right decision because everything is now integrated with UMSU,” said the Rector.
According to him, the integration of Ma’had Abu Ubaidah will become a new strength for UMSU, particularly in strengthening the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI).
“This is a new strength for UMSU. We will further strengthen the Arabic language component. This is a major asset that we have long hoped would strengthen FAI in the future. It is a long-standing dream that we are now realizing,” he said.
The Rector also emphasized that the integration was the result of discussions conducted jointly by both parties. UMSU is committed to supporting various programs run by AMCF while strengthening the university’s role in community service.
“We have discussed this integration and merger together. UMSU is committed to supporting AMCF’s Muslim Movement programs. UMSU will further strengthen its role in community service,” he said.

“With the signing of this MoU, approximately 305 students will be integrated into UMSU, providing us with a new source of strength. We will integrate the entire human resources and information systems, allowing prospective students to register for UMSU through Ma’had,” he explained.
