Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held a Leadership Management Training (LMT) attended by 152 participants from various structural positions across faculties, bureaus, centers, and university institutions. The training was held from Friday to Sunday (August 7–9) at Hotel Niagara, Parapat.

The event was officially opened by Chairman of the Central Executive Board (PP) Muhammadiyah, dr. Agus Taufiqurahman, M.Kes. Also in attendance were members of the PP Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (Majelis Diktilitbang), UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd., UMSU Board of Trustees (BPH) Chairman Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP., and his team, as well as Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership of North Sumatra (PWM Sumut) Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution, M.A., and Secretary Dr. Irwan Syahputra, M.A.

In his presentation, Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah dr. Agus Taufiqurahman expressed his appreciation for the organization of the Leadership Management Training for leaders of faculties, bureaus, centers, and institutions within UMSU.

He emphasized that the training is essential for developing transformative leaders as a key requirement for realizing UMSU’s ambition to become an outstanding university.

“If UMSU has already achieved university excellence today, then it must strive to become an institution that is exceptional in every respect,” said Agus.

He explained that making UMSU an exceptionally excellent university requires, among other things, strengthening synergy between Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) and the broader Muhammadiyah ecosystem. This synergy rests on five pillars: ideology, human resources, programs, assets and facilities, and networks and partnerships.

Dr. Agus also highlighted the increasingly complex challenges facing Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah higher education institutions. Strong synergy, he said, is the key to addressing changes in geopolitics, the liberalization of the education sector, and other emerging challenges.

“PTMA institutions must strengthen their synergy with the Muhammadiyah ecosystem so that they can grow stronger and respond to challenges from a position of greater balance,” he said.

Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd. said the training was facilitated by the PP Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development. He expressed hope that the program would build a strong and cohesive team capable of responding effectively to future challenges.

“We hope this training will produce transformative leaders who can build synergy and collaboration while strengthening the four pillars: sense of belonging, sense of responsibility, sense of collaboration, and innovation,” he said.

Earlier, Secretary of the PP Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development, Prof. Ahmad Muttaqin, S.Ag., M.Ag., M.A., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation to the rector and university leadership for their proactive response in organizing the LMT. The training is part of an effort to strengthen collective cohesion and support the university’s transformation.

Also in attendance were leaders and staff of the PP Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development, including Prof. Mahfud Sholihin, Ph.D., Ak., CA., CPA.; Mohammad Adam Jerusalem, S.T., S.H., M.T., Ph.D.; Prof. Ahmad Muttaqin, S.Ag., M.Ag., M.A., Ph.D.; Moh.
