The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (Fatek UMSU) warmly welcomed a delegation from Butterworth Vocational College, Malaysia. This visit was part of an exchange program and internationalization efforts, held on Tuesday, August 29th, at the VIP Hall of UMSU, located on Jalan Muchtar Basri No.3 in Medan.
The Malaysian delegation was received by Deputy Dean I, Ade Faisal, ST., M.Sc, Ph.D, and Deputy Dean III, Affandi, ST., MT, to facilitate knowledge exchange regarding the Faculty of Engineering with 15 students participating in the benchmarking program. This is not the first visit from Malaysia; previously, students from the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia had also visited and conducted benchmarking with the Electrical Engineering Program at UMSU.

Affandi introduced the Faculty of Engineering at UMSU, highlighting that it manages three accredited programs: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, all of which have received excellent accreditation.
“Welcome to the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra, especially the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Currently, our Faculty of Engineering has 985 students across these three programs, and our engineering faculty members are, on average, Ph.D. holders,” said Affandi while introducing UMSU’s Faculty of Engineering.
He also explained that engineering students at UMSU are actively involved in various fields, including Student Competitions, the National Student Sports Week, Entrepreneurship, and even Robotics competitions within the Search and Rescue (SAR) division.
“In addition to their studies, engineering students are trained in entrepreneurship and have received entrepreneurship funding in Surabaya,” added Affandi.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Electrical and Electronics Department at Butterworth Vocational College Malaysia, Azhar Bin Kamaruddin, expressed his gratitude to UMSU for the warm reception and hospitality.
“Thank you for the warm welcome to UMSU. The connection between Indonesia and Malaysia, under the same ethnic group, creates a sense of harmony and brotherhood. UMSU is much larger than our institution, which aligns with our main interest in electrical engineering,” Azhar remarked.

Furthermore, the diploma (D3) graduating students from Butterworth Vocational College were eager to inquire about the process of continuing their education at UMSU. In response to their queries, the UMSU Office of International Affairs and Cooperation (OIC) affirmed that UMSU is very open to welcoming foreign students who wish to pursue further education at the university.
The event was attended by representatives from Butterworth Vocational College, including the Head of the Electrical & Electronics Department, Azhar Bin Kamaruddin, the Head of the Electrical Program, Hayati Binti Abdullah, the Head of the Electronics Program, Norfilzah Binti Ghazali, the Coordinator of Electrical Management Spk & Ldp, Nurulazuwa Binti Abu Hassan, the Coordinator of Industry Relations & Training for Electronics, Paridah Binti Said, the Coordinator of Obe & Mqa/ Mbot Accreditation for Electronics, Shamsinar Binti Abdul Razak, and student representatives.
