The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) held the Graduation and Oath-Taking Ceremony for the 43rd cohort of medical doctors, along with the Young Doctors’ Pledge for the 32nd cohort, at the UMSU Auditorium on Saturday (Sept 27).
According to the official decree of the Dean of FKIK UMSU, 44 students from the professional medical program were declared graduates and are now entitled to bear the title of medical doctor. Meanwhile, 121 students from the undergraduate medical education program officially took the Young Doctors’ Pledge.
UMSU Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, SH, M.Hum, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them not to become complacent with academic achievements.
“A GPA of 3.95 is nearly perfect and truly remarkable. But remember, the community will not ask about your GPA—they will ask about the quality of care you provide,” he emphasized.
He also stressed the importance of upholding moral integrity in the medical profession.
“Be wary of financial temptations, such as illegal abortion practices or other unethical actions. Safeguard the reputation of your alma mater and uphold Islamic and Muhammadiyah values as your moral compass,” he urged.
Prof. Arifin further noted that FKIK UMSU has received approval to open a surgical education program and is actively involved in the national acceleration of specialist study programs under the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.
Earlier, the Dean of FKIK UMSU, Dr. Siti Masliana Siregar, Sp.THT (K), reminded graduates to maintain integrity, practice Islamic values in society, and uphold the responsibilities of the medical profession.
“As doctors, you carry a great responsibility to yourselves, your patients, and the institutions where you serve. Protect the reputation of your alma mater, as one unworthy action can tarnish the image of all alumni,” she stated.

She also encouraged lifelong learning.
“Even with an excellent GPA, never be complacent. The journey is still long. Your internship will test your readiness, and ultimately, society will be your true teacher,” she advised.
On this occasion, Dr. Hanif Fahri, Sp.KJ, representing RSUD Dr. H. Amri Tambunan Lubuk Pakam as a teaching hospital, delivered his remarks. He assured that the hospital is committed to mentoring new doctors to become professional healthcare providers.
“We are ready to guide them into becoming the best generation of doctors, supported by our accredited quality standards,” he said.
Representing the graduates, Dr. Zulfikar Pulungan expressed gratitude for their success in completing medical education.
“This achievement is not solely the result of our own efforts, but also the prayers of our parents, the guidance of our lecturers, and the invaluable lessons from patients, who have been our true teachers,” he said with emotion.
Several new doctors graduated with nearly perfect GPAs, including Dr. Alvi Aul Nasution, Dr. Bahdi Mandala Putra Harahap, and Dr. Hanif Alhairi, each achieving a GPA of 3.98.
