The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, represented by Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum, officially sent off students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) to take part in School Field Experience (PLP) 2 and 3, International and Regular Community Service (KKN), as well as SEA Teacher participants from the Philippines. The ceremony was held on Tuesday (July 30) at the UMSU courtyard, Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3 Medan.
PLP 2 will run for two weeks across 17 vocational schools (SMK) and 22 elementary schools (SD), while PLP 3 will take place at 19 high/vocational schools (SMA/SMK) and 22 elementary schools. Meanwhile, the International KKN program involves 66 students assigned to Malaysia and 31 students to Thailand, divided into three waves of departure scheduled between August 10 and September 8, 2025.
In his remarks, Vice Rector I Prof. Arifin emphasized the importance of discipline and ethics throughout the program.
“PLP and KKN are a continuation of the academic journey that immerse students directly in community life. For those in the International KKN program, it is crucial to adapt to different cultural settings. Always uphold your dignity and safeguard the reputation of both yourself and UMSU,” he said.
He further reminded students about responsibility and time management.
“Being punctual is a sign of responsibility for the trust placed in you. When dealing with students, patience is essential—avoid situations that could lead to undesired outcomes,” he added.
Addressing the SEA Teacher participants from the Philippines, Prof. Arifin extended a warm welcome.
“We hope you feel at home with our culture and cuisine. May this program run smoothly, and may you stay healthy and make the most of your time here,” he said.
Earlier, Dean of FKIP UMSU, Dra. Hj. Syamsuyurnita, M.Pd., expressed her hopes that more UMSU students would join the SEA Teacher program abroad in the future.
“For those departing overseas, carry yourselves well. Protect UMSU’s reputation, act politely, and demonstrate that you have exceptional competence,” she reminded.
The send-off ceremony was held with great enthusiasm, attended by program heads, faculty leaders, and field supervisors. The event was highlighted by the symbolic pinning of participant ID tags for PLP 2, PLP 3, International KKN, Regular KKN, and SEA Teacher students, followed by a group photo session.
