During a friendly gathering at the UMSU Auditorium on Jalan Muchtar Basri, No.3 Medan, the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, was moved to tears while in the company of 544 exceptional and superior students on Tuesday, November 7th.
Based on the report from the Vice Rector III Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, UMSU, this year UMSU won achievements in various national and international competitions. Successfully won funding for 86 Student Creativity Program (PKM) teams, 17 Student Entrepreneurial Development Program Assistance Recipients teams (P2MW), 6 ORMAWA PPK teams, 1 NUDC team, 2 ON MIPA people, 1 LIDM team, one regional Pilmapres winner student and others.
Upon seeing the successes of UMSU students, Professor Agussani expressed his gratitude and pride, shedding tears of joy. “I would like to thank you, my dear students, for your numerous accomplishments at universities, particularly at Muhammadiyah North Sumatra,” he spoke with tears in his eyes.
The Rector of UMSU remembered the history and long journey in achieving achievements. He mainly talked about the PKM competition, which started in 2006, when Prof. Agussani became Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and the SRCC institution was still called UPKIM.
“This is an extraordinary success funded by 86 proposals by submitting more than 600 proposals. It used to be very difficult to get,” he said.
Prof. Agussani said this success was inseparable from the three pillars, namely academic, administrative, and financial pillars, as well as student and alumni affairs. According to him, the pillars of student and alumni affairs must align with the other pillars.
“Of course, we have to increase this success. The products produced can collaborate with the Provincial Government, and one day, UMSU student products can become a mainstay,” said Prof. Agussani.
On that occasion, Vice Rector III said that UMSU has an achievement target from PP Muhammadiyah every year.
“Alhamdulillah, all the targets have begun to be seen, Mr. Rector, because this year, especially in the PKM program, all faculties have funded student teams,” said Assoc. Prof. Rudianto.
He said that this year, there were at least 1,000 students and 6,000 students with potential achievements. In the future, it is targeted that 80% of UMSU graduates will receive outstanding degrees.
Then, the Chairperson of the UMSU SRCC, Fatimah Sari Siregar M.Hum, reported that 86 teams that passed funding with a total of 160 million managed to rank 1st in PTS / PTMA in Indonesia PKM in 2023 and ranked 12 in PTN / PTS in Indonesia.
“It is great gratitude that UMSU can partner with PTN and other PTS in PKM. All faculties at UMSU have also managed to get funding,” said Fatimah. Likewise, 6 PPK ORMAWA teams received funding of 290 million.
Not only in the field of PKM, based on a report from the Chairperson of PUSKIBI UMSU Assoc. Prof. Hj. Dewi Andriany, SE., MM, UMSU, got 17 funded business proposals this year and won first place for PTMA in Indonesia and second place for PTN PTS in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, M. Khoirul Fahmi, a representative of outstanding and superior students and the winner of the Pilmapres champion, recounted his journey to achieve this. He said that since the beginning of the semester and being hit by Covid-19 has kept his enthusiasm to participate in online competitions.
When lectures are offline, Fahmi actively participates in competitions so that in 2022 he can tour five islands such as the Essay Contest in Aceh, MTQ in West Papua, Community Service in Selangor Malaysia, National MTQ in Banjarmasin, KTI Finals in Kendari, and finally, in Jakarta.
“All of this cannot be separated from the support of the Rector and Head of Bureaus throughout UMSU and guidance from the lecturers. I am touched to beat other well-known campuses in the Regional Pilmapres event,” said Khoirul Fahmi enthusiastically.
This friendly activity was closed by embedding excellent student pins and handing over the Best Academic Higher Education Award (PTA) for MBKM Organizers in the Field of Student Creativity of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture by the Rector of UMSU to the Chairperson of the SRCC and the Chairperson of PUSKIBI.
Faculty Leaders attended this activity throughout UMSU, Heads of Units and Institutions throughout UMSU, Heads of Student Affairs Bureaus, and Associate Lecturers.
