Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP), Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir MSi, revealed that the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), together with the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PW) of North Sumatra will host the 49th Muhammadiyah Congress.
This was conveyed by Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir MSi when attending the groundbreaking of the 17-story UMSU Tower on the UMSU Campus, Jalan Kapten Mukhtar Basri Medan, Saturday (23/12).
This activity was also attended by the General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu’ti, MEd, who immediately handed over the decision letter for the implementation of the Congress to the Chairman of PW Muhammadiyah Sumut Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution, MA, accompanied by UMSU Chancellor Prof. Dr. H. Agussani, MAP.
The chairman emphasized that the selection of UMSU to host the 49th Congress resulted from the PP Muhammadiyah plenary meeting on December 13, 2023. “The core of today’s event is the submission of the Decree on the implementation of the Congress in North Sumatra,” he said.
Regarding the tower’s construction, Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M., was proud of the UMSU family. He also asked that the building be completed soon because it will be the arena for the 2027 Muhammadiyah Congress. He also asked the Muhammadiyah Association in North Sumatra to remain united.
“The Congress is a milestone for strengthening the acceleration of Muhammadiyah as a progressive Islamic movement. This is the second century of Muhammadiyah’s journey,” said Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si.
The chairman also outlined the importance of early diversity development in the millennial generation. “We must diligently and patiently foster their morals,” added Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si. At the same time, asking all parties to show exemplary behavior.
UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. H. Agussani, MAP, thanked the support for the tower’s construction, which has long been planned.
Prof. Dr. H Agussani MAP expressed the readiness of UMSU, together with PW Muhammadiyah, to host the Congress in the next four years.
The Rector added that fast work for constructing a tower equipped with an auditorium with a capacity of 6,800 invitations, 120 lecture rooms, and 25 office spaces is an important part of structuring the campus to answer future challenges.
The tower worth more than Rp.250 billion, which was built over 36 months, continued the Rector, carries the cultural characteristics of local wisdom from Malay, Mandailing, Batak, and Padang. The building materials are environmentally friendly. “In early 2027, this tower building can already be used,” he said.
The groundbreaking was also attended by Nurjanah (chairman of PP Aisyiah), H Musa Rajekshah MHum (former Deputy Governor of North Sumatra), Prof. Saiful Anwar Matondang, Ph.D. (head of LLDikti North Sumatra), scholars, chairman of BPH UMSU, Vice RectorI, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M Hum, Vice-Rector II, Prof. Akrim, MPd, Vice-Rector III, Dr. Rudianto, MSi and deans of UMSU and other invitees.
