UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, through UMSU Vice Rector 1, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Hum, handed over royalties to 130 authors of books published in 2023 UMSU Press. Submitted, Thursday (13/4) at BI Corner UMSU Library, Muchtar Basri Street No. 3 Medan.
This activity has been carried out for the last three years. Authors who receive royalties are increasing, starting from 2021, as many as 16 authors with 210 books sold, 2022 as many as 51 authors with 1106 books sold, and 2023 an increase of 130 authors with 1814 books sold.
According to the Head of UMSU Library Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin, M.Pd; books published by UMSU Press have been sold nationally and even internationally through the Amazon Book platform.
Hearing the significant development of UMSU Press, Vice-Rector Prof. Arifin said that during these 3 years, not only books have increased but also writers. This characterizes the increasing spirit of writing.
“Alhamdulillah, UMSU Press which was established in 2013, books have been recognized nationally and internationally through Amazon. If you want to go international, write in a foreign language,” said Prof. Arifin.
He also said if you have chosen the profession of being a lecturer, then writing is a necessity. According to him, writing works presented as books can elevate the author to fame and trust in his knowledge.
Meanwhile, UMSU Press author representative Dr. Faustyna, M.I.Kom, said she was proud to be able to publish her works at UMSU Press. He also encouraged fellow lecturers to continue publishing scientific results in books that can support their rank as educators.
The activity was closed by handing over royalty certificates and gifts to the 10 authors with the most sales during 2023. Followed by submitting the UMSU Press guidebook to Vice-Rector Prof. Arifin Gultom.
