Jaring Halus Village Residents Hope for UMSU Assistance

Langkat, umsu.ac.id – Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) visited the assisted village in Jaring Halus Village, Secanggang District, Langkat, Wednesday (2/6).

The visit was led by the Head of LPPM UMSU, Syaiful Amri Saragih, MSc, accompanied by a team including Nurman Ginting (Community et al.), Muhammad Arifin, and Muhammad Andi Yusri (Publication Division) and the Head of the Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA), Yurisna.

Syaiful Amri Saragih said the visit to Jaring Halus Village, Secanggang, Langkat, was a follow-up to the request from Jaring Halus Village to UMSU for community development.

The Village Head attended the meeting, H. Usman, S. Pd., accompanied by the Village Secretary, Iskandar, and the Head of Finance, Nurzia Fiddini, SE, who is also an alumnus of the Management Study Program, FEB UMSU.

Head of Jaring Halus Village, H. Usman, SPd, said that he hopes for assistance from UMSU in terms of developing the potential of natural resources from management to marketing, including the utilization of Jeruju leaf plants, which are currently made into tea. Management of flowers and Nipah fruit into high-value products.

Usman asked UMSU also to be able to assist community development in training in making regional crafts (tanjak, modern Malay clothing) and making souvenirs typical of Jaring Halus.
Waste management into valuable products because the problem of waste is currently serious.

“We ask UMSU to develop human resources by motivating youth to continue their education to the undergraduate level through scholarships,” he said.

Currently, he said, there is already a reading house, but because there are no human resources, UMSU assistance is needed to help. Usman also hopes that UMSU can facilitate the publication of a book on the history of the Fine Net.

He explained that previously, UMSU had carried out activities such as eradicating illiteracy in 2009. UMSU assistance submitted from 2016 to 2020 is still standing strong and being appropriately utilized.

Head of LP2M UMSU, Syaiful Saragih, said that from the results of the meeting, a follow-up plan will be carried out, including strengthening BUMDes as the spearhead of developing regional potential. Assistance in managing the regional superior natural resource product market by involving related faculties. Likewise, assistance in processing village potential in the field of local specialty crafts such as tanjak and fine net souvenirs.

UMSU will also provide scholarships to local youth and counseling to the community on the importance of further education.
