Thousands of job seekers crowded the “job fair” arena held by the Career Development and Alumni Center of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara in the auditorium of the Jalan Captain M Basri campus, Medan, Saturday (13/8).
The job fair held by CDAC UMSU was attended by 22 companies that opened various job vacancies. Companies involved in the job market include banking, finance, plantations, and media.
The event was marked by signing a cooperation agreement between UMSU, which was directly represented by the Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, and company leaders. Abdul Wahab Nasution As Branch Manager of PT. Prima Karya Sarana Sejahtera, Rida Darani as Human Capital Business Partner Manager of Sumatra PT. BFI Finance Indonesia Seeta Azza Aprisaufa is the founder of Jasa Bachelor Indonesia.
UMSU Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, said that the labor market held by UMSU is part of the responsibility and service for alums. “Job Fair” is also integral to higher education quality standards nationally and internationally.
The Chancellor explained that UMSU is a university that has received four stars from an international rating agency, QS Star. One of the indicators is the absorption of alumni in the company, the availability of career mentors, and the number of companies collaborating with universities.
“CDAC, which was previously known as the Employment Service Center, is a form of UMSU’s commitment to providing job opportunities for graduates to have a successful career in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the UMSU CDAC, Sukma Lesmana, Ph.D., said that there are three main tasks of the institution he leads:
- Career preparation by holding a career development training workshop seminar.
- Keeping a job fair or job fair to connect graduates with companies.
- A tracer study is used to measure the presence and performance of graduates in the world of work.
He explained that the job fair held in 2022 was attended by 22 companies with a total of 1,500 registrants. “This year’s job fair is the seventh, but it was held virtually during the pandemic,” he said.
The job fair was attended by alum graduates from various public and private universities in North Sumatra. It is hoped that the activities carried out can provide solutions to increase the absorption of higher education graduates.
The seventh job fair was held in collaboration with PT Prima Karya Sarana Sejahtera. Also present were the vice-chancellors, institutions, and leaders of faculties and study programs.
