The Language Center (PUSBA) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) successfully held its Third Grand TOEFL Prediction Test, attracting more than 445 participants. The event took place on Saturday (June 6) at the UMSU Auditorium on Muchtar Basri Street No. 3, Medan.
The program was officially opened by UMSU Vice Rector III, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si., who expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming enthusiasm shown by participants. He emphasized that TOEFL scores and certification have become increasingly important qualifications in both higher education and the professional world.
“I am delighted to see such extraordinary enthusiasm from all participants. Congratulations on making the right decision to be here today,” he said.
According to Vice Rector III, a TOEFL Prediction Test serves as an essential first step in assessing participants’ English proficiency before taking an official standardized TOEFL examination.
“A prediction score helps participants evaluate their current level of proficiency and better prepare for the official test. In today’s increasingly competitive environment, thorough preparation is essential to achieving the desired results,” he explained.
He also stressed that English proficiency should be supported by an officially recognized certificate as evidence of language competence.
“Being able to speak English alone is not enough. Without a recognized certificate, individuals may face challenges in meeting academic and professional requirements,” he emphasized.
The participants consisted of university students and members of the general public who wished to assess their English proficiency while preparing for future academic pursuits, scholarship applications, or career opportunities.
Earlier, Muhammad Rafi’i, S.Pd., M.A., Head of the UMSU Language Center (PUSBA), explained that this year’s event marked the third edition of the Grand TOEFL Prediction Test and once again received an enthusiastic response.

“This is our third Grand TOEFL Prediction Test, and we are delighted to welcome more than 445 participants. PUSBA UMSU is committed to becoming a comprehensive language center that supports not only English but also the learning of other foreign languages,” he said.
He noted that PUSBA UMSU offers more than TOEFL testing services, providing comprehensive preparation programs for internationally recognized language proficiency examinations.
“PUSBA UMSU offers training and preparation courses for both TOEFL and IELTS examinations. At UMSU, a TOEFL certificate also serves as a supplementary diploma document for graduates,” he explained.
According to him, the Grand TOEFL Prediction Test provides participants with valuable exposure to the structure and question formats of the TOEFL examination, allowing them to prepare more effectively for future official tests.

“Through this program, participants gain a better understanding of TOEFL question formats and testing strategies. It is also an excellent opportunity to build networks with fellow participants and serves as valuable preparation for those planning to pursue higher education abroad,” he added.
Through initiatives such as the Grand TOEFL Prediction Test, UMSU aims to strengthen awareness among students and the wider community of the importance of measurable English language proficiency while supporting preparations for postgraduate study, scholarship opportunities, and an increasingly competitive global job market.
