The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Medan City conducted a silaturahim visit and reviewed the progress of the auditorium and sports hall construction at the Integrated Campus of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) in Saentis Village, Percut Seituan District, Deli Serdang, on Saturday (3/1).
The MUI Medan delegation, led by its Chairman, Dr. Hasan Matsum, M.Ag., was welcomed by UMSU Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP. On this occasion, the Rector presented an overview of the development progress of the UMSU Integrated Campus, which is planned to serve as the venue for the Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Congress in 2027.
“This integrated campus is projected to become a center for modern and progressive Islamic education and civilization,” he said.
Prior to the presentation, Prof. Agussani outlined the history of UMSU and the long process behind the initial development of the Integrated Campus in Saentis Village. He emphasized that the project is the result of continuous efforts and collective collaboration among various stakeholders.
The Rector also highlighted that UMSU has established a Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) to support the national program initiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. The kitchen facility for the free nutritious meals program is ready to be inaugurated.
MUI Medan Chairman, Dr. Hasan Matsum, M.Ag., expressed his appreciation and support for the UMSU Rector for providing the opportunity for MUI Medan to conduct the visit and directly observe the campus development. He stated that the visit reflects a shared commitment to supporting the project and ensuring the success of the 49th Muhammadiyah Congress in 2027.
On the same occasion, he also conveyed plans for MUI to establish a Halal Commission in the future and expressed openness to synergize with the UMSU Halal Center. He expressed pride in the UMSU Rector for consistently involving MUI in the university’s development journey.
The visit is expected to strengthen institutional relations between UMSU and MUI Medan and enhance synergy in community development and educational advancement in North Sumatra.
During the visit, the MUI Chairman, along with board members and community leaders, directly inspected the construction of the auditorium building, which is designed to accommodate 7,000 people, followed by the sports hall with a planned capacity of 3,000 people.
The event was attended by members of the MUI Medan Board, UMSU Foundation Treasurer Drs. Mutholib, Dr. Nahar Abdul Ghani, Rector’s Special Staff Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qorib, MA, KH Zulfikar Hajar, Hasnil Aida, Asmawita AM., Latifah Hanum, Rahmat Hidayat Nasution, Muhammad Basri, Zulkarnaen Sitanggang, Mustafa Kamal Rokan, Suherman, and Sugiatmo.
