UMSU Rector Presents Progress on the Integrated Campus Development**
The North Sumatra Committee for the 49th Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Muktamar attended a gathering and presented updates on preparations for the major event in Makassar on Tuesday (7/10).
The gathering was attended by Muhammadiyah Regional Leaders (PWM) from Eastern Indonesia. A total of 15 PWM leaders from the eastern regions were present at the event initiated by PWM South Sulawesi and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar.
Among the attendees were the Committee Chair, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP—who is also the Rector of UMSU—along with the Chair of PWM North Sumatra, Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution; Deputy Chair Mahmud Yunus, MA; Secretary and Deputy Secretaries Irwan Syahputra, MA, and Mutholib, MM; and PWM Treasurer Dr. Muhammad Qorib, MA.
Also present were the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, Dr. Ir. H. Abdul Rakhim Nanda, ST, MT., IPU, as well as Muhammadiyah Regional Leaders from several provinces, including:
Prof. Dr. H. Ambo Asse, M.Ag (South Sulawesi), Drs. Ramli Makatungkang (North Sulawesi), HM Amin Parakkasi, SAG, M.Hi (Central Sulawesi), H. As Chair of the Regional Committee, Prof. Dr. Agussani reported the progress of preparations underway in Medan, including the construction of key Muktamar facilities:
-
The “Auditorium Berkemajuan” with a 7,000-seat capacity, which will host the Muhammadiyah Muktamar.
-
The Walidah Sport Hall with a 2,500-seat capacity, designated for the Aisyiyah Muktamar.
These Muktamar facilities are being built in the Sampali area, Deli Serdang, on 25 hectares of land located on the border between Medan City and Deli Serdang Regency. Construction has currently reached 26.8 percent completion.
“God willing, the venue for the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Muktamar in North Sumatra will stand side-by-side and is expected to be completed by July 2027,” Prof. Agussani said, receiving applause from the audience.
The Rector of UMSU also presented a brief overview of North Sumatra—a diverse province rich in culture, natural beauty, and distinctive culinary traditions.
“I feel the need to introduce North Sumatra so that Muhammadiyah members who attend can get a clear picture of the host region for the 2027 Muktamar,” he added.
During the event, as Chair of the Muktamar Organizing Committee, Prof. Agussani showcased the video “Sumut Goes to Muktamar 2027,” which received enthusiastic responses—especially when it was revealed that the venue area will also include a fruit garden, where durian trees have already been planted.
Earlier, the Chair of PWM North Sumatra, Prof. Hasyimsyah Nasution, MA, expressed his hopes that the Muktamar would truly embody progress. He highlighted two key reasons: the importance of expanding dakwah within society, and the natural leadership transitions—similar to government—that inevitably bring policy changes.
“Because of that, Muhammadiyah must demonstrate a leadership transition through the Muktamar that creates a positive impact on the community,” he said.
“With this Muktamar, we can show the magnitude of Muhammadiyah—not for pride, but as part of strategic dakwah,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chair of PWM South Sulawesi expressed his appreciation and readiness to support and help ensure the success of the Muktamar in North Sumatra.
A similar sentiment was shared by the Rector of Unismuh Makassar, Dr. Ir. H. Abdul Rakhim Nanda, ST, MT., IPU, who encouraged all PWM leaders present to contribute to the success of the event.
