After the Covid-19 pandemic, the University of Muhammadiyah Sumatra Utara released 1,070 Masters’s and Bachelors’s graduates for the first time. The graduation ceremony for period 1 the year 2022, took place at the Selecta Convention Hall Medan, Tuesday (25/6/22), which the parents of the graduates also attended.
Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Agung Danarto said that this graduation moment strengthened UMSU’s commitment to the internationalization program to answer the challenges of globalization, which requires graduates to compete.
“We are proud that UMSU is moving forward to strengthen the internationalization program to answer the competitive challenges of globalization,” he said in his graduation speech.
He believes that UMSU graduates can compete to answer the future because their students are equipped with progressive Islamic values. The disruption era still requires faithful, pious, honest and trustworthy individuals. Graduates who are equipped with Islamic values will be vital in responding to the generation of disruption. PP Muhammadiyah, according to Agung Danarto, clustered UMSU as one of the best PTMAs with myriad student and graduate achievements.
Acting Head of the North Sumatra Higher Education Service Institute (LLDikti) Prof. Dr. Ibnu Hajar said, UMSU has shown a commitment to the internationalization program. One of them is that UMSU has accepted many international students to study and sent their students abroad. This is one of UMSU’s efforts to answer the demands of globalization, which is characterized by human migration without state barriers.
According to Prof. Ibnu Hajar, recently UMSU, one of the private universities, collaborated with universities in Turkey to develop Islamic doctor programs and astronomy. In addition, he continued, UMSU is also the only private university that has entered the world’s QStar.
Prof. Ibnu Hajar said, Universities that enter international ranking institutions are not easy unless they are quality universities, not only on a local but national scale to achieve international level competition and it is not easy. Meanwhile, UMSU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP in his speech emphasized that UMSU’s entry into the 4-star QStar shows a commitment to strengthening the internationalization program whose goal is that this university can be among the world’s universities.
With UMSU’s position on the world stage, continued the Chancellor, it will answer the demands of internationalization in all fields of education and the world of work. UMSU students and graduates can compete and adapt in the internet of think era.
“It is impossible for UMSU to enter QStar and answer the internet of think era without a strong effort and commitment to the internationalization program. That’s where UMSU is not cans,” said the Chancellor to thunderous applause from the graduates.
At the end of his remarks, Chancellor Prof Agussani advised graduates to maintain the good name of the alma mater and continue to build relationships with UMSU, besides continuing to give the best to the community.
At this moment, the Chancellor inaugurated the Young Doctor, Yusmawati Yusran, a victim of the Palu earthquake and liquefaction who received a full scholarship from UMSU. When the earthquake and liquefaction occurred, Yusmawati, still in the first semester of the medical faculty, threatened to drop out of college because her family had also become victims of losing their homes and business.
