Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) and Bank Sumut officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in educational services and human resource development. The signing ceremony was held on Monday (May 11) in the VIP Room of the UMSU campus on Jalan Muchtar Basri No. 3, Medan.
President Director of Bank Sumut, Heru Mardiansyah, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FIKTI) UMSU, expressed appreciation for the collaboration and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting academic programs and student development initiatives.
“Alhamdulillah, today we are able to formalize this MoU. We are ready to support UMSU in various programs, and hopefully we will be given sufficient time and opportunity to carry out this mandate well,” he said.
He added that the support provided by Bank Sumut would extend beyond payment services and include strengthening the educational and industrial ecosystem.
“There is a great deal we can support. We provide sharia banking services, not only in terms of payment systems, but also by serving as a bridge for students entering the industrial sector. Beyond banking services, we also see opportunities for future research collaborations, which are highly needed,” explained Heru Mardiansyah.
According to him, the partnership is expected to generate broader benefits for both institutions.
“Through this collaboration, we hope to create wider benefits for students, the university, and the industrial sector alike,” he concluded.
Earlier, UMSU Rector Akrim stated that the partnership marks an important step toward strengthening synergy between higher education institutions and the banking sector.
“We hope this cooperation can be further expanded, particularly in student payment services, to strengthen the relationship between UMSU and Bank Sumut. In the future, we expect UMSU students to be able to pay tuition fees through Bank Sumut and also gain internship opportunities at the bank,” he said.
Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara and Bank Sumut are committed to enhancing collaboration between the university and the banking industry, covering areas such as digitalized educational payment systems, student internship programs, sharia banking services, and future research partnerships.

Also attending the event were Secretary of the UMSU Board of Trustees Mutholib along with board member Dalail Ahmad, Dean of FIKTI Al-Khowarizmi, lecturers and bureau heads within UMSU, as well as representatives from Bank Sumut.
