Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology’s Directorate General of Higher Education (Kemendikbudristekdikti), organized a workshop for the Enhancement of Accredited Journal Rankings. The workshop aimed to improve the quality and management of national scientific journals, with the goal of achieving international accreditation and reputation. The two-day workshop took place on Friday and Saturday, June 8-9, at the Grand Mercure Maha Cipta Hotel, Jalan Sutomo No.1, Medan.

According to a report by Rizky Prasetya, Sub-Coordinator of Journals at the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Engagement, the workshop was attended by 20 selected participants out of thousands of applicants. The objective was to enhance the quality of journals before publication, as the team is now more selective in assessing the quality of journals. He expressed gratitude to UMSU for hosting the workshop and providing speakers for the 2023 event.
“We thank UMSU for being our partner in organizing this event. We have experienced the beauty and warmth of UMSU. Congratulations to the participants, as this was not an easy event. Thousands applied, but only 20 were selected,” he said.
Rizky, representing Kemdikbudristekdikti, hoped that this event could minimize errors in journal creation and improve journal accreditation rankings to the top level.

Meanwhile, UMSU’s Vice Rector II, Prof. Dr. Akrim, M.Pd, in his address, expressed the hope that the workshop would enhance the quality and management of journals. He emphasized that the participants in attendance were from journals accredited at levels 3 to 4.
“The high dependence of lecturers and students on the need for scientific journals requires integrity. We must avoid unethical practices. We hope that all of us, despite various efforts from lecturers and students to quickly publish and obtain a Letter of Acceptance, must exercise caution, as this is also a benchmark for good journal management,” urged Prof. Akrim.
He also hoped that through this training, journal accreditation could improve or at least not decrease due to poor quality and management. Additionally, Prof. Akrim wished for each participant to collaborate on publications, as it is a requirement for higher education institutions.

“Let’s collaborate and assist each other, even as we strive to showcase the higher quality of our respective higher education institutions,” he stated.
The event was attended by UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, along with Vice Rectors, Iman Rusmana from Bogor Agricultural University, Iwan Hermawan and Tinton Dwi Atmaja from the National Research and Innovation Agency, Dedy Sumardi from Ar-Raniry State Islamic University Banda Aceh, Yoga Dwi Arianda, Rizki Prasetya, Fajar Sandi Prawoco, and Ahari Faturrachma from the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Engagement, as well as the 20 participating attendees.
